The Guardian: Pentagon to restore Obama's troop cuts in Europe to address Russian aggression
* Army presence in Europe to return to three armored brigades
* Move aims to reassure European allies of US commitment
The US military will keep three heavy army brigades in Europe on a continuous basis, reversing Barack Obama’s reduction of forces after concluding that Russian aggression poses an enduring threat to continental stability.
The shift in course is the latest in a series of small restorations of the military status quo before Obama, suggesting that senior officers have already begun to look past his presidency.
Shortly after Obama leaves office in 2017, the army presence in Europe will return to three armored brigades, with associated vehicles and artillery set for immediate restoration.

Thank God! If it wasn't for this new commitment in Europe the Red army would be in Paris by June. The fact that ISIS made it there before them is a travesty!

The Russian military is not much different than it was 6 or 12 months ago. It has the same base and trajectory, more or less.
That all of the sudden the Russian military is now seen as a threat says that intel failed or maybe the political masters for the intel community failed.
It might be both but re have seen plenty of reports of the latter to make it appear that it is the larger problem.
