Thousands of migrants are pouring into Sicily by sea every day, sparking fears that the ancient Mediterranean isle has become ‘the new Lesbos’.
Arrivals to the island have increased by 90 per cent in the first three months of the year. In the last three days alone, more than 6,000 migrants have arrived on its shores.
MailOnline went aboard a Norwegian rescue ship that brought 900 migrants to the Sicilian port of Palermo. Thousands more, who had all been picked up on the Mediterranean, were taken ashore simultaneously at other ports on the island.

WNU Editor: My girlfriend's family is Sicilian .... and I have been hearing abut this for the past few weeks. The overwhelming majority of these migrants are black males looking for a better life. Almost all of them do not speak the language, nor do they have any skills ... but what is scaring everyone is that with Greece-Balkan route now closed, this tidal flood of humanity into Italy is just beginning.

During and since the so-called "Libyan Revolution" black Libyans and sub-Sarahan African workers have been subjected to pogroms and ethnic cleansing. Blacks, especially males, are seen as supporters of, and fighters for, Qaddafi. Good 'ol fashioned racism plays its part too.
Some like to blame Qaddafi, but not a few Libyans didn't want to do any "dirty" work. Black Africans were brought in to build things and perform other labour intensive tasks. To say they have no skills is not entirely accurate unless you mean vis a vis Euro/Ukrops and others without papers (quick to call blacks n!!!#$) wetbacking it west or harrassing Dutch people on the bus to vote for EU association.

Much like today's U.S. Mexican population, the black people brought in to perform work others didn't/don't want to do, are now derided and despised by those too lazy and entitled to work.
There is no irony at all in the fact that "western" societies with rich histories of racism, slavery, and loafing aligned themselves with the most regressive elements in Libya and took part in destroying the Jamahiriyah.
Once again, like is attracted to like.
There is, however, irony in the truth of said blacks now coming ashore in Sicily as it was Qaddafi who kept their migration in check at the behest of the Italian Government. It was also the Libyan government, turning away from Arabism to pan Africanism (note Qaddafi's African broaches), that invested in African development projects (made fun of as "white elephants, crazy etc." by oh so knowlegable, beneficent western commentators of great probity) that benefitted said "blacks" and would make their homes more appealing to remain in.
