NPR: Donald Trump Is About To Start Getting Intelligence Briefings
Harry Truman had been vice president for only 82 days when Franklin Roosevelt died, so there was quite a lot he needed to learn when he became president in 1945.
"He didn't even know the atomic bomb existed," historian David Priess said. "He didn't know about the Manhattan Project."
Priess, a former CIA officer and author of The President's Book of Secrets, a history of the president's daily brief, said that experience made Truman resolve that no future president should come into office unprepared.
So in 1952, as the world grew accustomed to nuclear peril and other threats in the unfolding Cold War, Truman offered classified briefings about the global security situation to each of the major-party nominees running to replace him. That tradition has held up ever since.

Viva Mr Donald Trump
This is BS, Trump is a reasonable person not the loose cannon people think, his campaign to this point has been brilliant, he will how ever use this knowledge to attack Hilder-Beast. I can hear it now, "the things I have been briefed on OMG, and Hilder-Beast is responsible, you would be amazed". He is really good at that, he doesn't shoot from the lip, most of what he says is planed for effect and it is working, he pounded all those Republican political hacks to dust. I really love this election most exciting in my lifetime and I have been following them for a very long time.
It's going to be like teaching physics to an infant. People see what they want to see in a person, but he has shown no ability to filter what he says or when he says it. Fortunately, he won't be getting them after November 4th.
