Donald Trump Would Ask The U.S. Congress To Formally Declare War To Fight Terror

Politico: Trump: I may ask Congress to formally declare war to fight terror

President Donald Trump would have no problem asking Congress for a declaration of war to fight terrorism, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee told Fox News host Bill O’Reilly in an interview that will air Monday evening.

“It wouldn’t bother me at all doing that,” Trump said, according to a transcript of the interview. “We probably should have done that in the first place.”

The real estate mogul said fighting terrorism isn’t the same as traditional war, noting that terrorists don’t wear uniforms and battling extremists isn’t the same as going against a country like Germany or Japan.

WNU Editor: We are at war already .... but a formal declaration will probably give a hypothetical Donald Trump more authority and power .... which is probably why Congress will not vote (or support) such an authorization ... among other things.

The 2001 AUMF has through Bush and Obama's actions, with out any push back from the House or Senate, has morphed into the ability to kill anyone, ( even Americans), bomb anywhere, for any reason, any time.

Der Furour actually going to the House and Congress would actually open up a debate that the US has not had for 15 years.

As I said Jay .... "among other things". But a debate is needed .... correction .... sorely needed. Maybe one day .... maybe.

Not until the millenials are in charge,

Until then, it's a debate most are actively avoiding by every means possible.

Both Alwiki and his son were American citizens,

Unless you believe that US citizenship means nothing.

Both were born in the US, Alwiki to Yemen Parents, his son, to US parents.

Both travelled on US Passports.

Neither of them renounced their citizenship, nor did the US Government revoke it.

"Lawyers for the Obama administration, arguing for their ability to kill an American citizen without trial in Yemen, contended that the protection of US citizenship was effectively removed by a key congressional act that blessed a global war against al-Qaida.

Known as the Authorization to Use Military Force (AUMF), the broad and controversial 2001 law played a major role in the legal decision to kill Anwar al-Awlaki, the former al-Qaida propagandist and US citizen, in 2011, according to a redacted memorandum made public on Monday."

Might want to scale back your Obamarant's a little bit, at least until the AUMF has been replaced or expired.
