Global Military Spending
Business Insider: The only chart you need to see to know that the US spends more on its military than the next 11 countries combined
It's no surprise the United States pours more money into its military than any other country in the world.
In 2015, the US had a defense budget of about $597 billion, according to the International Institute for Strategic Studies' most recent World Military Balance report, released earlier this year.
In short, that's more than the next 11 countries combined.

Imagine how much of that money is wasted on frivolous crap, stupid pet projects and the like.
If spending money alone determined how successful something is, US public schools would be the best in the world and Washington DC schools would be the best in the United States. The same with military spending.
While the US may spend more on its military than the next 11 nations combined, it is not stronger militarily than the next 11 nations combined. In fact, Russia is likely the strongest military force on earth followed by China yet these nations don't spend as much on the militaries as America does.
Perhaps the only way to "know" for certain who has the strongest military is to actually fight. Hopefully it won't come to that.
In any event, it does not seem we are getting the kind of return on this that would justify it. If NATO and other defense agreements are renegotiated, this should result in enormous savings, improve America's defense posture giving the troops a fighting chance of actually defending America, improve troop morale, and improve trop retention.
The American military would hard pressed to defend America right now. As such, these "agreements" do not seem to make much sense in today's world unless these nations are planning on sending troops to America to fight along side us if/when we are invaded.
