Washington Post: Okinawa murder dominates talks between Obama and Abe
TOKYO — The brutal murder of an Okinawa woman, allegedly by a U.S. military contractor, dominated a meeting between the American and Japanese leaders Wednesday night, with President Obama expressing his “deepest regrets” to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe over the “tragedy.”
The murder has reignited outrage in the southern island prefecture over the large American military presence there, with thousands of people protesting Wednesday outside the U.S. Air Force base where the contractor worked.
“This is an unforgivable crime, and I have expressed our anger. It has shocked not just the Okinawa people but also all the people of Japan,” Abe told reporters after an hour-long bilateral meeting with Obama in Ise-Shima, ahead of the Group of Seven summit that will begin Thursday. The Okinawa case took up most of the time, Abe said.
Okinawa police last week arrested Kenneth Shinzato, a 32-year-old former U.S. Marine, in connection with the murder of 20-year-old Rina Shimabukuro. Shinzato was working as a computer and electrical contractor on Kadena Air Base.

There are American soldiers in Japanese prisons.
They did the crime, they need to do the time.

Obama is getting shafted by the Japanese leadership.
If Obama can go to Hiroshima, then the Japanese PM can damn well got to Pearl Harbor.
Japan's biggest coup in WW2 was surrendering after Germany.
I did not agree with Obama's going to Hiroshima. The Japanese have barely come clean with the Comfort women. That took 50 years. Then there is the medical experiments (Unit 731), cannibalism, treatment of POWs, the Rape of Nanjing, 20 million dead Chinese, Dead Philipinos and other SE Asians, the Death Railway (all 90 miles), etc.
There are 3 big reasons for Obama not to go to Hiroshima.
1) The bombs saved Americans and Japanese from an invasion. More Japanese would have died in an invasion especially if the Japanese conscription of men women and children had worked.
2) The nuke was worse than incendiary raids?
3) Japan still has not come clean on the above mentioned items. Obama should had his Secretary of State or someone make deal such as I go to Hiroshima and you go to Pearl. At least that is the way that I heard it is suppose to work. It seems it is still amateur hour at the White House.
Still Obama made the effort and he got shafted.
If the Japanese are that upset of American troops station in Okinawa, we can retire and let the Japanese face China alone.
A few bad apples paint all Americans bad? Surely, this contractor is going to a Japanese prison. If this contractor acts up, he will be put in general population instead of being 'special'.
If I heard correctly before the Japanese put the contractor in general population (if he acts up), the Japanese will politely ask 1st. We'll say "go ahead" and no one will cry except Amnesty Int'l and the other usual suspects.
