The Pentagon's Priorities Are Going To Change Soon Regardless Of Who Wins The White House

Loren Thompson, Forbes: Why Pentagon Priorities Will Soon Change No Matter Who Becomes President

Military planners and defense investors have begun focusing on the fact that President Obama is in his final year as the nation’s commander in chief. Next year, a new president will start putting his or her imprint on the U.S. defense posture. However, new leaders seldom have an immediate impact on Pentagon priorities unless something happens overseas, because the makeup of the joint force reflects political compromises arrived at over many years. Besides, it typically takes over a decade to field new weapons — longer than two presidential terms.

Nonetheless, I can predict with high confidence that sometime soon, Pentagon priorities will change markedly. Perhaps policymakers will decide they need to spend more money on defending the homeland against nuclear attack. Or maybe they will reverse the gradual unraveling of the Army that has occurred on Obama’s watch. I can’t predict precisely what shifts will occur, but I can state with near certainty that big change is coming.

WNU Editor: One thing that I have learned since starting this blog is that nothing stays the same. Wars and conflicts come and go, alliances and enemies change, and what is important today is irrelevant tomorrow. Are big changes for the Pentagon (and for the U.S.) coming down the "pipeline" .... definitely .... and it is going to impact all of us .... the question is .... how are we going to respond it.

They could, but then they would have to give up on hundreds of billions of dollars in trade, sales and influence that goes to the 1% and MIC,

Allow other countries to decide their own way and not have the US dictate to them.

So, it ain't gonna happen.

You are right Jay. The U.S. is bogged down in too many conflicts. This blog monitors and reports on these conflicts, and even I am not sure on how many conflicts the U.S. is currently involved in .... to put it bluntly .... I have lost count.
