CNBC: How bad is it in Venezuela? Soldiers are stealing goats

"I think it's important to pay attention to what's going on in Venezuela," says an analyst who follows the country.

The situation in Venezuela has become so bad that even soldiers are struggling to support themselves.

Over the weekend, six members of the Venezuelan military were detained by local authorities for stealing goats, the Venezuelan newspaper El Nacional reported Sunday. It said the soldiers confessed to stealing the goats and said they did it to feed themselves, since they had no food left in their barracks.

"It's not a good sign when your military doesn't have enough food, and when the military has been relegated to guarding and protecting food lines," said Jason Marczak, director of the Latin America Economic Growth Initiative at the Atlantic Council. "This is endemic of the problems going on across the country."

: I do not know if this story is true .... but this story reminds me of what happened to the Russian army when the financial crisis hit that country in the early 1990s. It got so bad that even my father .... when he needed a squad or two of soldiers to help him clear some brush or do some work (would call his brother .... my uncle .... who was a senior officer in the military at the time .... and  ask if he could spare a few troops to do some work). And what was the cost .... a few cartoons of Malboros and a home cooked meal for all the troops. Is the same thing happening in Venezuela .... considering how much these soldiers make .... it would not surprise me.

WNU,
Notice the guys in the light blue shirts with sew on patches above their hearts, mostly back right of the lead formation? They are packing and no one else. Also it looks like Maduro is wearing some body armor. Maybe not as confident in the military as they let on.

Wow ... you are right James. They are the only ones who are packing .... and they are making it very clear to everyone else. And as for body armour .... in the past few months .... when he is in public .... it appears that he does have body armour. If he is wearing the same outfit in the summer heat .... that will be confirmation to me that body armour is now a necessity for him.

WNU,
A little more on this picture, I count seven in the security detail starting left with the guy in white shirt, 2 guys center rear, 1 woman in red blouse center right, and the three back left. Something off camera front left has some of their attention. Most interesting person is the guy front left in brown trousers. And at last, notice how Maduro is out of step with all the military types.

Make that three back right.

You are right James. Brown trouser guy and women in red top do not fit in. Maduro walking out of step .... that is so true. LOL
