The Independent: US Military Academy investigates black female cadets for 'Black Power' gesture in photo

Critics of the gesture say it violates Armed Forces guidelines; supporters say the women are expressing solidarity with each other

The US Military Academy, commonly known as West Point, launched an inquiry into a group of 16 black, female cadets set to graduate after they posed in a traditional group photo raising their fists - a gesture historically associated with black resistance.

The image prompted an investigation on 28 April to determine whether or not the women broke any rules, West Point spokesperson Lt Col Christopher Kasker said in a statement. Department of Defence guidelines prohibit soldiers and cadets from making political statements while in uniform or on military grounds.

Update #2: Black cadets cause West Point stir with raised fists (AFP)

WNU Editor: Their public photo and the one that they want people to see is here. The above photo is their private one .... which I suspect they never thought would cause the stir that it did. They are making a private statement that someone decided to post on social media .... whether or not they should have done it in uniform and posted it on social media is another debate.

Update: There is now a debate on social media on whether to call these cadets "Black" or "African-American". Groan .... you think there were more important issues out there than this.

What can one say, we know that very little discipline will happen to these Cadets 1- because their Black, 2- because their women. We live in a Politically Correct hell.

We just might end up in civil war hell if the very deep, and very real, divisions in American society are not addressed intelligently (and damn soon). This coming election does not inspire hope.
