Another 'Unsafe' U.S. - China Jet Intercept Over The East China Sea

CNN: U.S.: Chinese jet makes 'unsafe' intercept of Air Force plane

(CNN)A U.S. Air Force RC-135 reconnaissance aircraft flying Tuesday in international airspace over the East China Sea was intercepted in an "unsafe manner" by a Chinese J-10 fighter jet, several defense officials tell CNN.

The Chinese jet was never closer than 100 feet to the U.S. aircraft, but it flew with a "high rate of speed as it closed in" on the U.S. aircraft, one official said. Because of that high speed, and the fact it was flying at the same altitude as the U.S. plane, the intercept is defined as unsafe.

The officials did not know if the U.S. plane took any evasive action to avoid the Chinese aircraft or at what point the J-10 broke away. It is also not yet clear if the U.S. will diplomatically protest the incident.
Officials said the RC-135 was on a routine mission.

I'm beginning to wonder at the structure of United State's Pilots' debriefing. Are they given a simplistic questionnaire, with check-boxes?

[] Foreign Aircraft was friendly, we waved and scheduled tea.

[] Foreign Aircraft was hostile, he fired upon me and insulted my mother.

[x] Foreign aircraft was just kinda.. unsafe, I guess.

Not sure exactly what is so funny here. It's only a matter of time before the Chinese shoot down one or more of the US planes over the South China Sea either killing or imprisoning the pilots should they manage to survive the shoot down. This is no laughing matter.

If Us pilots, planes, and other military assets are not there, this would not happen. Getting our military assets and personnel out of this region as quickly as possible is probably the only viable solution. Again this is no laughing matter.

All of these various military agreements the United States is a part of desperately need to be renegotiated. This along with improving relations with Russia need to be the top priority of the next POTUS. So far, Mr. Trump in implying that Mr. Putin is a man he can work with and pointedly stating the arrangements need to be renegotiated seems to be the only candidate who actually gets this.

Actually I've been pointing out the need to renegotiate these things since at least 1997. I'm pleased to see that at least someone who may someday be in a position of power is finally catching on. This alone would be a sound reason for Americans to vote for Mr. Trump.

I really would hope that the briefings are bit more serious than suggested. They should go something like, at a minimum, "what did you learn by observing the Chinese pilots and aircraft in action?" This can then be passed on to the remainder of the USAF to be used in training.
