Task & Purpose: Gunmen Try To Rob McDonald’s Where Special Forces Are Eating
The robbers didn’t get to have it their way thanks to the 11 French special forces officers dining in the restaurant.
When two armed men entered a McDonald’s in Besançon, a city in Eastern France near the border to Switzerland, they bit off more than they could chew.
On June 5 two robbers in their mid-20s entered the fast food chain, fired a shotgun into the air, and began directing employees to empty the register, which contained roughly $2,270 in cash, reports Agence France-Presse.

McDonalds probably contain more cash than Bank tellers.
Digital money ( debit cards, credit cards) are the purvey of pretty much everybody from the solid working class up to the 1%, so no cash in the till there.
The poor and working poor however mostly rely on cashed cheques and cash transactions, so retail operations and transactional services, ( payday lenders and pawnshops) are going to hold more actual cash.
All cash businesses, like drugs, illegal gambling and brothels probably have the largest amonts of cash on hand, but are "hard targets".
