Ayatollah Khamenei has no appointed heir. Caren Firouz/Reuters
WNU Editor: I have been reading persistent reports on social media and Middle Eastern news websites (the comment thread) that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khameini has died. None of the International wire services are carrying it ... and Iranian media .... Press TV, Fars News Agency, Tasnim News Agency are still quiet. Is this report is true? I will have to say no. If Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khameini was dead .... this news would be on Iranian TV within the hour (if not sooner). But .... these reports are still making the rounds.

The questionable Debka website has this
According reports appearing in social media in the Gulf region Saturday evening, Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khameini has died. He was known to be gravely ill with cancer. Tehran has not so far posted word of his death.
He has been very sick and rumors such as this usually have some basis in fact. WNU if there is any uncertainty in succession the major players may not want any publicity just yet. I would watch very carefully the movements of Solemeini and other senior officials (especially of Al Quds) for the next week at least and 2 or 3 days prior to today for that matter. Any dropping out of sight would be especially instructive.
James. You motivated me to put up a post on that very topic. Now ... off to visit the golf God.
