Syrian Forces Advance On The Islamic State's 'Capital' At Raqqa



The Australian/The Times: Assad regime storm Raqqa, join battle to drive out Islamic State

President Assad’s forces are storming towards the Islamic State stronghold of Raqqa in an offensive that adds another layer to the complex alliances pushing to dislodge the militants from northern Syria and Iraq.

Isis is now battling to maintain its territory on four fronts across the two countries. In Syria, a US-backed coalition of mainly Kurdish fighters is advancing on the eastern end of Isis’s 65 kilometre stretch of territory along the Turkish border, while rebel groups together with the al-Qaeda linked Nusra Front are battling the jihadists in the town of Marea at the western end.
