Efforts like the Third Offset Strategy invest in new tech like lasers to keep the military's advantage.

Secretary of Defense Ash Carter said Friday the U.S. military has lost some of its technological edge against China, but he is optimistic that his department’s new investments and innovation efforts will ensure “the U.S. military remains the best.”

Carter said during a conference hosted by Defense One in Washington, D.C., that China “has improved its economy, the standard of living of its people. And with that comes an advance in its military capabilities, there’s no question.”

As a "losing battle", this is what I've been saying all along. Russia and China are currently the world's most powerful countries and this gap is only going to get bigger in the current years. As such, adjust, act accordingly, and good outcomes are still possible.

This isn't hard people. Humans have been doing this kind of adjusting for thousands of years with much success. I'd suggest finding something they need, find a way to fill the need, and, in other words, add value to them.

I meant "in future years."

China will always be chasing the US for the latest tech. China's problem is quality control... The US's problem is capitalism...moving companies offshore to appease shareholders and increase profits is and will remain a problem for intellectual property. Oligarths don't and won't care until it's too late...overseas manufacturing partners a great, until it no longer isn't. $.02
