Washington Times: ‘NightDragon’ $13K rifle automatically tracks, kills targets in darkness
A U.S. precision-guided firearm maker has released a rifle that can automatically acquire and track targets moving up to 15 miles per hour — at night. The price tag: $12,995.
Texas-based TrackingPoint Inc. regularly produces innovative weapons for predator eradication or self-defense. The NightDragon semi-automatic 7.62 NATO, which tracks targets as the trigger is pulled, was released Tuesday.
“NightDragon incorporates an infrared-sensitive CMOS sensor that detects light not visible to the human eye. Depending on the strength of the IR illuminator, targets can be engaged and tracked out to 200 yards at night,” the company says on its website. “As a shooter pulls the trigger, the target is automatically acquired and tracked. When trigger pull completes, the target is instantly eliminated. Total Time-To-Kill (TTK) is approximately 2.5 seconds.”

WNU Editor: I have been following the company TrackingPoint for years, and what their tech can do this is truly remarkable .... it can make an average person with limited experience on firing guns an expert sniper right away. But it looks like they have now mastered a version that can work at night. Their website is here.
