Voice of America: UN Sees Threat of Protracted War in East Ukraine Conflict
GENEVA - A new report from the Office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva said the situation in eastern Ukraine remains volatile two years into the war between Russian-backed armed separatists and the government.
The latest U.N. figures show nearly 9,400 people have been killed and more than 21,500 others wounded since the conflict began in mid-April 2014.
U.N. monitors said active fighting has decreased; but, they warn, the Minsk peace agreement is fragile and the situation could develop into a protracted conflict or escalate again.
They said both scenarios would have dire consequences for the civilian population and be harmful to human rights for many years.

WNU Editor: Two more years? I call this an optimistic assessment. What's my take .... as long as Ukraine President Poroshenko and his supporters are in power, there will be no resolution to this conflict.

I worked with a guy from the Soviet Ukraine in '14. When we discussed the situation there at the time he said "Now, it's never gonna stop. Never." He was neither pro Russian nor pro Ukrainian. In his mind, the difference was academic. It's not hard to believe there are a lot more people still in the Ukraine who feel the same but are afraid to say so.
The following is an account of the coup and subsequent action in Crimea. I tend to give it much more credence than anything the gang in Ottawa has been peddling... reenactments and all.
