Radio Free Europe: White House Aide Says Deal To End Ukraine Conflict Possible By Year's End

The White House is pushing for implementation of a deal to end the conflict in eastern Ukraine before President Barack Obama leaves office, national-security adviser Susan Rice has said.

While recent peace talks involving Russia and Ukraine have been unproductive, the former United Nations ambassador who now coordinates foreign policy at the White House said that she sees the potential for a resolution by the end of the year.

Obama is due to leave office on January 20.

Appearing at a Washington Post event on June 9, Rice said U.S. officials are intensifying their efforts with their French and German counterparts to convince the two nations to carry out their parts of the Minsk peace agreement they signed in February 2015.

Maybe she's banking on a Trump victory in November being the cure-all...

I think a Trump victory would be helpful. He has suggested that Mr. Putin is someone we can work with and he has suggested the ridiculous NATO "alliance" needs to be renegotiated. In contrast, all Mrs. Clinton could seem to do in her speech was to call Mr. Putin names like she's in the schoolyard or something indicating she does not currently have the temperament necessary to be POTUS.

He's even had the forethought to suggest that US leaders including him could meet with North Korean leadership. While the Korean conflict is essentially a conflict between the North and South Koreas that we foolishly blundered into in the 1950s that we CANNOT solve, as it will be up to the Koreas to solve this one, if we were to resolve our differences between the North Koreans and ourselves, the North Koreans may be willing to trust us as an honest broker of sorts to help resolve this. Given our long relations with South Korea, there would be no reason for them to not trust us.

Additionally, he's had the courage to point out that the Iran deal is a bad deal. This particular deal seems to have essentially been a gang rape of America. While this did have the result of making the media, many world leaders, and other anti-American forces very happy, allowing oneself to be gang raped without even a whimper of protest does not seem to be a good way to conduct any kind of policy.

While an improvement, I don't think a Trump victory could be a cure all. America's challenges are simply to broad and deep for any one person or one thing to be a magic cure.

I think the problem with Ms. Rice is the same problem that has plagued the US government for quite some time. The leadership tends to overestimate our capabilities, underestimate those of adversaries and potential adversaries, overestimate our capabilities to influence certain events, understate the potential of adversaries to influence certain events, and to generally put a Pollyannish spin on things especially issues related to national security or world events.

There was not a chance of believing this.

Susan Rice is a lying hack. I have a hard time believing her.

How does she believe herself? I think some including these people lie so much that they begin to believe their own lies.

She should go to a Banderite torchlight rally and make her pitch.

Obama should bring the cookies.

We'll see what gets lit next.
