Editor's Note
We lost power today because of bad weather. The back-up battery that I am using to power my computers is about to die. When power is restored (I have been told it will be in the next 2 or 3 hours), I will resume blogging and posting on what has happened in Nice (France) .... and on other news.

WNU,
I do not rightly know what it would take to power your home. Using solar would be hard being so far north on Canada. Do you have a stream? There are small generators that use small streams?
Maybe a Survivalist magazine might have adverts about off grid solar, hydro or other techs.
Ideal LAb of California has a solar egg crate set up, but as far as i know nothing came of it. It used a Stirling engine.
A Stirling engine can't be that good because a Scotsman invented it.
Natural gas generator may be the best way if you have access to the grid ,chance's are that will out last the electrical grid.
I hope you get utility back soon Editor. You mentioned earlier that you had a generator running. Did you run out of fuel?
Regardless, I always suggest going diesel. They are relatively quiet, more robust and the fuel stores better.
Power is back. Yes RRH .... I ran out of fuel for my small generator. I keep is as a back-up for winter, I never thought I would need it for summer.
I figured that's what happened. I have a 6kW set for my place. It's wired with a manual transfer switch and panel connected to essential circuits in the house. We religiously maintain the genset and fuel supply. My Wife says it increases her sense of security tenfold. Now if I could only sell her on solar....
Anyway, glad you are back up and running. Now for the tip:
Good news if true.

RRH .... that is surprising news on Ukraine - Canada. I am usually on top of this, but I missed it. Thanks
