ABC News Online: 'Prolonged, destructive' United States, China war possible, ex-Obama intelligence adviser says
United States President Barack Obama's former chief intelligence adviser has warned a war between the US and China would be long, destructive and could erupt if regional disputes already underway overheat.
David Gompert sent the warning to policy makers in a Rand Corporation report commissioned by the US Army.
"War between the United States and China could be so ruinous for both countries, for East Asia, and for the world that it might seem unthinkable," Mr Gompert wrote.
"If an incident occurred or a crisis overheated, both have an incentive to strike enemy forces before being struck by them.
"And if hostilities erupted, both have ample forces, technology, industrial might, and personnel to fight across vast expanses of land, sea, air, space, and cyberspace."
He said if such a war broke out today, China's losses would greatly exceed that of the US.

Nobody learn from WW2 .....a line must be set on what China and Russia is permitted to do even it means war, the alternative by inaction or late one will be worst.I am not a fan of war but the more they get the more powerful they become,you can see from a mile that this country's want no peace.There is a saying in my country:Today they want a finger tomorrow they will rip your entire hand....they'l be no end to their ambition.
Wonder why the ANZUS treaty is mentioned.

That is more than likely what many in China and Russia are thinking about the U.S. and friends. Things are definitely pointing in that direction and are not limited to their immediate borders.

It's China's back yard, and there is little that China is doing, that the neighbor's ( Vietnam, Phillipines, Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonesia, both Korea's, Taiwan and Japan) arn't doing too.
It's basically a neighbourhood squabble over backyard property lines and fences, complete with door bells rung and flaming paper bags of dog
poop. When it's Vietnam vs. the Phillipines, the US declines to weigh in, or Taiwan vs. Malaysia. The US only weighs in when it's "anybody" vs. China.
Maybe the US should keep it's nose out of it and quit stirring up some of the neighbors?

We are OK .... but it has been wet.
I have been visiting my mother's home town of Vyazma, 100 km west of Moscow specifically between Smolensk and Moscow). Before the Second World War there were 60,000 residents in the city .... when they were driven out, only 700 had survived (my family on my mother's side were incredibly lucky .... they were the only family that survived intact, and that was because they were hiding on the outskirts of the city, living in a cave for one year). The city has finally reached its pre-war population levels .... but when my mother shows up, everyone who is there spoils her big time. And yes .... she was super-spoiled yesterday.

The court ruling answered that.
No it didn't. The Court ruling decided that ancestral claims to use, allowed use.
It did not award ownership or EEZ's.
It said that these are rocks and temporary features, and countries can't claim rocks and temporary features outside their NB to expand their EZ's,
But of course, lot's of countries uncontested EEZ's are based on rocks and temporary features.
The ruling is NonBinding, and neither China nor Taiwan accept it.
