Star-Telegram: Lockheed Martin may shift F-16 production to India

With production winding down after 40 years in Fort Worth, Lockheed Martin is considering a plan to move assembly of future F-16 fighter jets to India — if that country places a big order for the planes.

The defense giant has offered India exclusive rights to produce and export F-16s, said Ken Ross, a spokesman for Lockheed Martin Aeronautics in Fort Worth.

“We are in discussions with the U.S. government, the government of India and our Indian industry partners about this opportunity,” Ross said. “Details about this potential partnership will be determined in conjunction with the respective governments, Lockheed Martin and Indian industry.”

Why is America sending Work to Third World country makes no sense

Mike Morrissey. Oakland, NJ USA said...

Cheap labor, more profits. Corporate America has been shipping jobs off to third world countries for years. The rich make more, everyone else loses out. Plus American work ethic is going down the shitter. I'm only 36 but it seems as though the country has lost the concept of hard work and dedication. The majority are sidetracked by social media and other nonsense.

Mr. Trump has expressed concern about this and has acknowledged a need to address this and fix it. Under his presidential administration BIG changes will be coming.

India is not a 3rd world country. It is a BRIC.

"The Second World is a Western term referring to the former industrial socialist states (formally the Eastern Bloc), largely encompassing territories under the influence of the Soviet Union. Following World War II, there were nineteen communist states, and after the fall of the Soviet Union, only 5 socialist states remained: China, North Korea, Cuba, Laos, and Vietnam. Along with "First World" and "Third World", the term was used to divide the states of Earth into three broad categories." -wiki

I would define and use the term 2nd world nation to describe a nation that is in parts 1st world and in significant parts it is 3rd world.

This would give a person a better handle to a countries strength and weakness.

One could argue that parts of the U.S. are 3rd world. Maybe 1 %. Ditto Canada.

India is a natural ally and counterweight to India.

Still India has been closely allied to Russia in the past.

It is not above the Russians to try to ally with traditional enemies.

In the 1970s Russia was allied with Ethiopia and Somalia. That was during the shitty Carter years.

For Russia, China and India to be allied is not out of the realm of possibility.

India should be created with great care. They should not be snubbed. Of course no one should be unless you are trying to start a fight.

If India wants to make their own F16s for their Air Force under license that is one thing. To make India the source of F16s for India, the U.S> and everyone else would be wrong.

Maybe India could sell F16s to 3rd parties, but they should not be sold back to the U.S.

Well, that's sad, of course! But we have to open our eyes: USA have the worst profit taxes, the worst regulations in the world and the worst burden with the bureaucracy. Thanks Obama for all of that. This guy has made more damage to US in 8 years than USSR in 74 years.
