Saudi Arabia And Other Gulf States in A 'Panic' Over Possible 9/11 Lawsuits

Middle East Eye: Gulf states ‘profoundly worried’ about being sued by 9/11 families

Congressional bill would allow bereaved relatives of 9/11 victims to sue foreign governments, such as Saudi Arabia, for culpability in the attacks

Gulf Arab states expressed concern on Monday over a bill passed by the US Congress that would allow relatives of victims of the 9/11 attacks to sue Saudi Arabia for compensation.

The six-member Gulf Cooperation Council, of which Saudi Arabia is the most powerful member, expressed its "profound worry" according to its secretary general, Abdullatif al-Zayani.

In a statement, he warned that the law "contravenes the foundations and principles of relations between states, notably sovereign immunity".

Are the votes really there? Wasn't this passed in both houses by voice vote? I would be shocked if the override succeeds.

Even if they sue, assuming this is a fair court the victims of 911 will lose should they choose to sue Saudi Arabia or the Gulf States. The operative words are assuming this is a fair court which it won't be. Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Arab states face the same enemies that we do. As such, we need to be working together to defeat this enemy.

As such, suing them is a waste of time and a diversion of resoces all the way around. This should be made clear to the families. Sue these people. Lose everything you have or ever will have. Such nonsense will NOT be tolerated.that

We need to focus on defeating this enemy. We CANNOT allow ourselves to be sidetracked. This is not to suggest Saudi Arabia or the Gulf Arab states are good people. They are NOT nor should they be trusted.

For that matter Soviet Russia was untrustworthy but was needed to defeat Nazi Germany. Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Arab States are fighting Al Qaida and ISIS. We cannot defeat this ebemy without their help. They don't need us one iota to defeat this enemy.

Without us it may take longer but the end result is still the same. Al Qaeda anc ISIS lose. We should be helping them to secure their gratitude. Perhaps they will choose not go harm us. Tnose wishing to sud these people need to have reality explained to them. Should they insist on continuing such silliness, put them in jail!! America's survival is at stake. We CANNOT afford such distractions.

As for Iran, this is an even graver threat to America. Our only choices are abject surrender and beg the vastly superior adversary whom we have no hope of defeating (the red sea could part again) or securing better relations with Russia in hopes that they will contain Iran for us.

After all having Russia the world's most powerful country explaining to the Iranians that "death fo America" is unacceptable and attempts to do so will result in extreme pain for them would be extrenely helpful. Perhaps the Iranians might back off. This is our only chance.

Back to the topic at hand. Suing Saudi Arabia or the Gulf Satates will not end well. We are figting the same enemies as they are, we need them far more than they need us, and we cannot hope to defeat them or collect any money from them. As such, this type of political theatrics needs to be strongly discouraged with threats of exteme punishment followed up by action upon anyone who insists upon such things.

Again, none of this is to suggest the Saudis or the Gulf Arab states are "good." They are not. A pragmatic approach is needed. Such an approach recognizes a fair hearing will result in defeat for those trying to sue, we face the same enemies as those under threat of suit, and we need the assistance of those under threat of suit more than they need to assist. As such, the "ambulance chasing" attorneys along with the media egging such dextructive nonsense on need to be stopped by ANY and ALL means neccessary.

Such people only raise false hopes in people and they undermine American national security. They need to be stopped. We cannot allow them to divert our attention from our real enemies of ISIS, Al Qaida, and Iran. The people they are trying to sue face these enemies as well and we need them more than they need us to defeat this enemy.
