CNS News: $8.7 billion so far fighting ISIS in Iraq and Syria, averaging $12.1 million a day
In a special report on Operation Inherent Resolve, the Department of Defense (DoD) details the actions and cost of fighting the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant, or ISIL — $8.7 billion so far for an average of $12.1 million a day.
“As of July 31, 2016, the total cost of operations related to ISIL since kinetic operations started on August 8, 2014, is $8.7 billion and the average daily cost is $12.1 million for 724 days of operations,” the report stated.
The report also detailed the number of air strikes that have been conducted by the United States and its coalition countries in Iraq and Syria. As of Sept. 13, the U.S. has conducted 11,558 strikes in Iraq and Syria (6,657 in Iraq and 4,901 in Syria).
