The Independent: US troops forced out of Syrian town by anti-Assad rebels

Video purportedly shows supposed American allies of the Free Syrian Army chanting: 'We're going to slaughter you'

Syrian rebels have chased American forces out of the town of al-Rai, according to local sources.

The Associated Press reports that US troops headed back towards Turkey after a dispute about their presence.

The five or six US special forces were there to support Operation Euphrates Shield, which began last month with Free Syrian Army fighters backed by Turkish artillery and jets.

lel wait, is he US Army operating MBTs in Syria? That isn't what I had in mind when I've read about 'special forces' and 'lightning attacks' and 'advisory positions'.

The MBT's were Turkish and part of their "escort" back to Turkey.

Leopard IIs.

Looks like the M60s weren't cuttin' it.

We'll find out if the Leo's can "cut it" or not, soon enough.

I know you are aware we had them in Kandahar Province. I was there when six showed up (2A6Ms) complete with German techs to teach us how to use/maintain them. They are quite the piece of kit.

But,

We may see what happens to a Leopard when it's struck by a TOW, Kornet or a 72's 125mmm. Something tells me a lot of folks are in for a shock.

T72 isnt the problem, leo probably going to get first shot everytime.
As for the atgw The tank may have a mobility kill but the crew should
Survive to fight another day.

All NATO armour had to face in Afghanistan was RPG variants and Afghan IED's.

Iraq was a different story.

Syria is aswarm with ATGM's , from Kornet's to TOWs

Yup. Exactly. And while I agree with Fazman that a Leopard will best a 72 most of the time, it's not impossible for a motivated crew to get the jump on the Leo from a well prepared ambush. Some of the newer models may even prove a headache for the Turk tanks in a straight up fight.
