CNN: USS Mason fires missiles in Red Sea after apparent attack

(CNN)The Navy destroyer USS Mason fired countermeasures in the Red Sea on Saturday after it detected what it believed were incoming missiles.

Officials Saturday night were uncertain about what exactly happened, if there were multiple incoming missiles or if there was a malfunction with the radar detection system on the destroyer.

"We are aware of the reports and we are assessing the situation. All of our ships and crews are safe and unharmed," one US defense official told CNN.

The USS Nitze and the USS Ponce were sailing nearby.

WNU Editor: In the past hour I have been reading the following reports and wondering if the U.S. is now actively engaged in another war ....

USS Mason Fired on Again Off Coast of Yemen: Officials (NBC)
USS Mason Fires Missiles at Possible Missile Attack (ABC News)
U.S. warship targeted in failed missile attack from Yemen: official (Reuters)

.... and we are now being told that maybe there was no attack, and it is all due to a radar failure ?!?!?! So the next question begs to be answered .... was this weeks reported missile attack from Yemen a mistake also ?!?!?!

Update: On a side note, I agree with this observation .... The US just bombed Yemen, and no one's talking about it (Moustafa Bayoumi, The Guardian).

The U.S. just bombed Yemen and no one is talking about it because the U.S. violating other countries' sovereignty through bombing, invasion etc. has become blasé blasé.

There were 28 cases, that we know of, during the Last Cold War, of "almosts".

The US rose to the bait and now they will start to pay for it.

Here is a vid of a Mark 1 Eyeball vs. an AGTM.

Basically, the only thing that will "see" a long range ATGM or ASM until a fraction of a second before it hits, is specific wavelength radars.

The fun part of radars, is they see stuff that's "there", but if they are even a fraction out of tune, they see stuff that isn't there.

In the "olden days", the Radar Operator manually adjusted the frequencies almost constantly, now half a million lines of code in redundant computer systems do.

Your average PO, CPO, JO is going to do a false flag.

I remember JOs discussing WMDs in Iraq in 2004. They did not want to fight in a phony war.

I know a coder I could ask.

Ships do work up excercises before going out.

Refresher training: Damage control
Light Off: Engine Room

... and so forth

For all I know the boy wants to backpedal. He is more for a domestic iron fist than adventuring abroad.

He is talking about curtailing the press is the best communist/fascist tradition. He used the cute little term called 'curating'.

Aizino,
The US has been trying to play on both sides of this conflict and other issues in the the region. By getting them to shoot, someone is forcing them to be publicly on one side or the other.
