Washington Times: Marine Corps experiment silences entire infantry battalion’s weapons
‘It revolutionizes the way we fight’
The U.S. Marine Corps is attempting a unique experiment that pairs the deadly — but typically loud — fire power of an infantry battalion with silence.
Maj. Gen. John Love of 2nd Marine Division out of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, is gathering data on the way suppressors improve battlefield communication and efficiency. Early testing at Marine Corps Air-Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms indicates that suppressing everything from M4 rifles to .50 caliber machine guns can dramatically assist U.S. warfighters.

Update #2: SILENT BATTALION: Entire Marine Unit Suppresses All Their Weapons (Bearing Arms)
WNU Editor: The U.S. SEALs use suppressors on their weapons .... and it has served them well. The Marines belevie these suppressors will enhance command and control by making it easier for soldiers to communicate with each other .... I also suspect that the enemy will be having a problem in pinpointing where the Marine shooters are. This is a smart concept .... I am just surprised that no one has applied this idea to large scale units until now.

This is an excellent idea, the ability to engage, while making it more difficult to detect were an attack is coming from, an Infantryman's dream but not so much fun for the ones being attacked. In Grozny the Russians took a lot of causalities from silenced .22's.I think it's an idea that should have been implemented years ago. The thing is with high powered rifles you will still get the supersonic crack as the bullet flies over your head but the blast is suppressed and that's the important part of suppression since it's very difficult to detect where the fire is coming from. I suspect that in the future all Infantrymen will be supplied with suppressors, not expensive, and the weight they add worth every gram they add to the rifle.
Subsonic loads will hopefully be used in place of normal nato standard munitions.
Subsonic loads? So butcher the already butchered designated varmint 22 caliber rifle round so it can no longer defeat the thinnest and minimal of barriers like car doors and branches? It has been 300 blackout time for like...12 years now. Lets just cut all the BS, re-arsenal and bring things up to speed/versatility at the best cost possible.
