The Hill: Obama, Biden to skip Fidel Castro's funeral
President Obama and Vice President Biden will not attend the funeral of former Cuban leader Fidel Castro, the White House said Monday.
White House press secretary Josh Earnest told reporters to “stay tuned” as to which top U.S. officials, if any, would attend the funeral, scheduled for Dec. 4.
Top Republicans have urged Obama not to attend the ceremony for Castro, 90, who died over the weekend.

WNU Editor: I did not expect Russian President Putin to attend .... he knows that most Russians have nothing but disdain for the former Cuban leader .... and there was/is no political gain for him to go. I did expect Canadian PM Trudeau to go .... to show the same respect to the Castro family as did Fidel Castro showed to the Trudeau family when former PM Pierre Trudeau (and father of Justin Trudeau) passed away a few years ago. I guess he and his aides made the calculation that there was nothing for him to gain politically if he went .... but a lot of blowback if he did go.

The Trudeau scion praise Castor to the hilt and then does not go to the funeral.
I guess he just wanted to stroke the intellectual vanity of some people.
Revolutions are messy things. Sometimes people get killed. Sometimes even people you think are close to God based on wealth, ethnicity, social status etc. It comes as a shock and generates great disdain when those we have been indoctrinated to believe are superior, without fault, and the picture of virtue, are rounded up, put in front a revolutionary tribunal/court,found guilty and sentenced to death or hard labour.
It is indeed a tragedy when people come to the conclusion that the only way to deal with the ruling class and their supporters/enforcers is to go to war against them. Cuba's ruling class was rotten, self serving, abusive, murderous, greedy, racist, and pimped out the country to gangsters and other foreignors.
It is no surprise that people who are raised to identify with and aspires to wealth and privilege, regardless of how it was accrued, scientifically debunked attitudes about "race", metaphysical legitimation of the social order, and reactionary attitudes in general absolutely loathe Fidel Castro. More tham anything, he is a class enemy and those who have even a shred of respect for him or the revolution he led are considered a threat.
It is also no surprise that the very same people who loudly shout down any mention of how the U.S. was founded, including the millions of deaths that resulted, and the continuing horror the founding mentality of the U.S. empire, inflicts on both its own citizens and millions across the planet, would despise Castro.
See, it's not about the millions killed -that's just a front. A transparent dodge employed by those like Aizino with their haughty self righteous "cultivated" tone born of a life based on someone else's misery and death-
It's about WHY they were killed and who's interests that were served. If the bodies pile up to defend the system that keeps them in Cheezeits, 4 runners, bodacious digs, income based on someone else's labour etc. that's "manifest destiny", "human nature", "the national interest", "God's plan" or whatever.
If the bodies pile up because the proles, dalits, wogs, niggers etc.. get tired of institutionalised abuse, mass murdering police actions at home and abroad, generation of ignorance, poverty and misery via policy, then that's "murder","sick", "evil" and "worse than Hitler" - a charge I have found particularly (but typically) hypocritical seeing how the system and interests the leading lights of "the west" hold in such high esteem produced that nightmare.
It never occurs to the Aizino's of tge world that their world outlook, warped self of entitlement, abusive behaviour, and false sense of superiority is what ultimately gets them long stints in labour re education camps,or a spot up against a bloody wall.
Too bad for them.
What was that phrase used in reply to the genocide(s) committed to found the U.S. as it is today? Oh, yeah, that's right - Cry Me A River motherfuckers.
Castro kicked your asses and you'll never get over it. Bullying, aberrant, lazy, useless, self entitled, mendacious, thuggish, oafish, lumps that you are.
Now pass more of you high fallutin'morally indignant grey poupon in response. Nothing kills a duck but its bill.
Viva Fidel!
Viva la Revolucion!
Za Stalina!!!
PS,
Everything that Chinese assessment of the human rights situation in the U.S. is true. And I wasn't aware that the Economist, Washington post and the various U.S. governmental agencies cited were Chinese propaganda -not all proganda consists of lies by the way, no matter how much you try to Amerikkkanize the Queen's English- and I guess I am sick.
Sick of your bullshit.
"It's about WHY they were killed" -YC
I am sure the Afro-Cubans were serving some demonic power.
sarc off
They were complaining about the fucking living conditions in Cuba and the class hierarchy in Cuba.
There are social classes in Cuba like there were in communist Russia and communist China.
The troll or idiot known as YC does not acknowledge the fact that there are social classes. There are many ways to show these classes.
One way is with time stop photography.
Another is energy expenditure.
You can write up all the phony paperwork you want, but a communist society is most definitely a society full of classes.
YC just lies to himself, likely, and definitely lies to everyone else about the class nature of communism.
