Is Rex Tillerson's Friendship With Russian President Putin Enough Of A Reason To Deny Him The Post Of U.S. Secretary of State?

The Guardian: Rex Tillerson: an appointment that would confirm Putin's US election win

The president-elect is reportedly favouring the Exxon Mobil CEO but experts say the Senate may bridle over a realpolitik choice that would benefit Russia.

If Rex Tillerson is nominated as the next secretary of state, it would confirm Vladimir Putin as one of the strategic victors of the US presidential election.

Barack Obama has ordered an inquiry into covert Russian intervention in the campaign, which the CIA says was designed to secure a victory for Donald Trump. But whether or not Russian intervention made a significant difference to the outcome, a Tillerson appointment would represent a significant gain for Moscow.

While the other leading candidates for the job hold largely traditional and adversarial views on Russia, the outgoing chief executive of Exxon Mobil has a history of close business ties to Putin, who bestowed the Order of Friendship on Tillerson in 2013.

The Wall Street Journal reported: “Friends and associates said few US citizens are closer to Mr Putin than Mr Tillerson.”

WNU Editor: Over the years I met many American businessmen in Russia looking for deals, an introduction, a contact, or a suitable business partner. Were they there because of a pro-Russian/Kremlin/Putin bias .... of course not. They were there to make money .... nothing more and nothing less. Rex Tillerson reminds me of those businessmen .... and the only difference between him and the people that I know is that he operates at a higher level. The fact that he and Putin are friends also does not surprise me .... business at this level is always conducted by people who know each other closely .... where trust, respect, and friendship is a prerequisite. But is this friendship a reason to deny Rex Tillerson the job of U.S. Secretary of State? We shall find out during the confirmation process if President-Elect Trump does appoint him to take the post.

Update: It looks like there is going to be a lot of opposition to this appointment .... Marco Rubio blasts Trump's likely secretary of state pick - with the senator saying no 'friend of Vladimir' should get the job (Daily Mail).

Tillerson's a Globalist, a R2P NeoCon, LBGT friendly, a Iran Hawk, one of Cheney's secret Energy Task Force, stands to make billions if US Sanctions are lifted on Russia, and is supposedly going to be paired with Boulton.

So much for draining the swamp.

I have some difficulties with this guy. If a "good relationship" with Putin is good enough to be Secretary of State, why not hiring someone from the FSB? Foreign Policy is extremely serious and need someone who has a "strong mind philosophy" for the best future of America.

Foggy Bottom hasn't filled a Sec. State position since the "Who Lost China Red Hunts", since then it's been filled by "connected amateurs".

It's part and parcel of a "long war" in the US against "intellectualism".
