Reuters: U.S. estimates 50,000 Islamic State fighters killed so far: U.S. official
The U.S. military believes that some 50,000 Islamic State fighters have been killed since the United States started battling the group more than two years ago, a senior U.S. military official said on Thursday, calling it a "conservative estimate."
The official, who spoke to Pentagon reporters on condition of anonymity, said the figure showed how the United States was effectively combating the group with U.S.-led coalition airpower and limited U.S. troop deployments in support of local forces.

Update: US official: 50,000 Islamic State killed in wars to date (AP).
WNU Editor: Call me sceptical .... but this 50,000 number sounds like it was pulled from a hat.

They must have used a fake news source :)
WNU,
It came out of the hat right after the rabbit.
If the number is true, would these 50,000 been adverse to waging terrorist operations or outright war in the West?
50,000 is a large #.
Are there 50,000 more who would join ISIS but cannot make it there?
I suspect the number of ISIS killed is actually far greater than 50,000. The deflated number was pulled out of tbe air for two reasons. 1.) 50,000 is a large number. By publishing it aloud certain powers that be look good. They've been killing bad guys and kept America safe!! 2.) If the real and far larger number of bad guys killed were released, the US economy and possibly much of the world economy would completely collapse as people would be afraid to leave their houses and would be barricading themselves within in a desperate attempt to protect themselves and their families.
They will try and keep the truth from us regarding the true nature of the threat posed by this enemy. To do so would be most uncomfortable. Perhaps we will all be "blessed" or "lucky" depending upon one's perspective and the enemy can be defeated. Clearly the leadership has denied reality. Studiers of Sun Tzu US leaders are not. The threat posed by the enemy has been denied and "the strongest military in world history" as stupid leaders have been saying is clearly ridiculous.
The truth is the US military would be hard pressed to win a war against countries like Iran or North Korea. Winning a war against a major military power like Russia or China is all but out of the question. (The Red Sea could part again but basing policies on such an assumption is unwise to say the least.)
I'd prefer the leadership come forward with the truth once and for all. Otherwise we are going to need to depend upon blind luck for America to somehow survive.
