300 U.S. Marines Are Being Deployed To Afghanistan's Helmand Province To Assist In The War Against The Taliban

Reuters: U.S. to send 300 Marines to Afghanistan's Helmand province

About 300 U.S. Marines will be sent to Afghanistan's Helmand province to assist Afghan security forces battling Taliban insurgents in intelligence and logistics matters, the unit's commander said over the weekend.

The deployment to Helmand will be the Marines' first to the southern province since they left in 2014 as the U.S. declared an end to its combat mission. Since then, Afghan security forces, still backed by Washington in the form of air strikes and hundreds of advisors, have struggled to contain the Taliban advance in Helmand.

300 marines to the dreaded Helmand province with Obama's ROE's. Maybe a battalion or two would make a difference, but c'mon. I'm sure they're just backing up special ops but you'll never control a volatile region like that with such a small force. Come back safe marines.

Obama in 2009 or sometime in his 1st term told his NSC that we the U.S. were no longer into nation building in Afghanistan.

So what did he replace it with?

I really have not heard where he made this official policy and tell it to the American people.

So what is he doing?

IMO he is just training to minimize bad news before his term comes to an end or in the 1st few months of the Trump administration. There is a lag between the last administration and when the incoming one gets its nominees confirmed and con focus on governing and not confirmation battles.

The Dem know this so that is why they promise confirmation battles and try to deliver. Not only might they dislike the nominee, but they want to hamstring any Republic administration's ability to govern.

After said hamstring they will go "see, see, they cannot govern."

so far Trump has thrown them for a loop.

Well Obama did announce it to the American people in 2013.

& then he did not deliver.
