Haaretz: Syrian Army Accuses Israel of Attacking Strategic Military Airport Near Damascus

Army command says Israel fired rockets at air base, warns or repercussions over ' flagrant' attack.

Several major explosions hit Mezzah military airport compound near the Syrian capital Damascus, and ambulances were rushed to the area, Syrian state television said on Friday.

Syrian army command said Israel had fired rockets at the air base west of the capital Damascus and warned Tel Aviv of the repercussions of what it said was a "flagrant" attack.

Syrian state television quoted the army as saying several rockets were fired from an area near Lake Tiberias in northern Israel just after midnight which landed in the compound of the airport, a major facility for elite Republican Guards, and warned it would take revenge for the attack.

With the explosion at the Damascus Officer's club, the visit of one of Khameini's closest people to Damascus, and the Russian sponsored peace conference, the internal conflicts of the Russo/Syrian/Iranian alliances are starting to peek out.
