China can't expect to flagrantly push it's weight around, seize the South China Sea, hand militarily threaten anyone who doesn't agree with what is already determined to be a breach of international law, and did not have any negative ramifications. It is hypersensitive to the Taiwan issue, it would be very easy just to recognize them. It would cost the United States nothing, and cause the Chinese great distress. China is going to have to understand that the United States interest in Freedom of navigation is just as important as China's interested in a China reality.
