AMN: Iraqi PM calls for a “thorough investigation” on why the US invaded his country

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has called for on Tuesday during a press conference for a full investigation into the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq.

He said he wants to see a "thorough investigation" on why the US decided its troops needed to be "occupying" Iraq.

“The US invasion of Iraq removed [former Iraqi dictator] Saddam [Hussein]'s regime, but on the other hand it led to… tragedies," he pointed out.

WNU Editor: Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi's call for a full investigation (and disclosure) into the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq is not going to happen now .... or in the next few years. Feelings are still raw on this topic right now .... and will be for a long time.

Not like he'd be PM now if the US hadn't invaded...

The investigation cannot happen right now because there's a very good chance that President Bush and his team would be exonerated or at the very least it would likely be established that the standard narrative on this is not as clear cut as we have been told. We cannot have Bush, his team members, or the "neo-conservatives" exonerated and we cannot have the true nature of the threat posed by Saddam's Iraq exposed. This is likely what would happen or at least there is a huge risk of this happening. Powerful people cannot take the risk.

As it is now, George W Bush, his team, and the "neo-conservatives" are almost universally despised. The United States is spending huge amounts in blood and treasure to secure Iraq for Iran. This should be more than enough for the Iraqi prime minister and the Iranians. They get control over Iran and don't have to sacrifice much for it. Let the Americans do the heavy lifting while they reap the benefits and America gets little to nothing. No one seems to be asking do we really want to fight on behalf of Iran "death to America."

You are correct editor that the investigation of the type the Iraqi PM wants cannot happen right now. Surely he must know this. As such, this is likely an attempt to extract more from the Americans. It will probably succeed.

Perhaps someday an honest investigation can happen and people can live with the result. For the powers that be such an investigation would likely exonerate team Bush and the "neo-conservatives", would reveal the true threat to America posed by Saddam's Iraq, and at the very least would reveal the situation is not as clear cut as the narrative of "Bush lied" that we have been told. The powers that be simply cannot have this right now. The Iraqi PM likely does not want something like this. As such, more political grandstanding to extract more from the Americans. It will probably succeed.

What I never seem to hear is the many UN violations, the shootings at aircraft patrolling no fly zone or the not allowing of inspectors to critical sites. All of which could and did lead up to suspecting wmds.

Whodat I remembered Iraqi violations and us bombing them when I was a kid (90s) but no else seemed to remember.

My opinion could be wrong, but my opinion states that it is insane for the Iraqi PM to push this. I guess maintaining constituency has no borders.

Whodat & Anon,

I remember all of these things to. Of course I have been blessed and cursed, mostly blessed, with a long memory. Many do not have such long memories.

As I recall, former PM Nouri Al Maliki had the good sense to thank the Americans for in an op ed for liberating his country from Saddam Hussein, however, I'm not sure this is "insane" to push for this type of investigation at this time.

We have a new POTUS come tomorrow. During the campaign POTUS elect echoed the positions of "Bush lied." At the time, I was thinking to myself "surely he knows better than this." I'm still sure that he knows better than this. He is brilliant, however, he tends to speak before he thinks through sometimes. When one is a business person who everyone does not hang on EVERY word you say, this trait can be a problem but a very surmountable one. When one is POTUS, perhaps not so much.

Taking this stance during a campaign for POTUS by a Republican was absolutely brilliant as Democrats have attacked Republicans endlessly on the Iraq war (even though they had a large role in this but hat is another topic). By taking this stance DJT cut the legs out from under a major line of attack that Democrats have used successfully against Republicans for years.

Looking beyond a POTUS campaign perhaps this was not so brilliant of a strategy. Now that he's on record as taking this stance, should the Iraqi PM's Iranian masters want him to push this, DJT may have no choice but to comply with the investigation the Iraqi PM wants.

As stated previously, obviously we can't have a fair investigation. Such a concept will be the farthest thing from the minds of any investigators. Something like that will reveal uncomfortable truths like those mentioned above that the powers that be simply don't want revealed. Unfortunately by taking the stance POTUS Elect took during the campaign may make it impossible for him to stop the kangaroo court that this would likely be from convening.

Assuming it went forward the conclusion is foregone and would open the door for Iraq to demand reparations. Once this happened, this would set a precedent for anyone and everyone to come forward demanding reparations from the Americans for anything and everything both real and imagined with the courts simply rubberstamping the claims of America's adversaries. Mr. rump could end up regretting the day he promoted an obvious falsehood for the sole purpose of advancing in a political campaign.

With that said Iran and their Iraqi puppet government probably don't want to pursue this right now. More likely is they want to extract valuable assets from America, make it clear to the Americans that they better obey them or this will go forward, and they will probably succeed. If they did advance forward with this, the Americans might actually start asking themselves "do we really want to sacrifice blood and treasure to secure Iraq for Iran?'

None of the current people in power in Iraq would be there without US intervention. Look past the bickering and think "Dont bite the hand that feeds". Much is given much is taken. Then again you are B Poster and I honestly did not read "why you are right" because well, youre not. Just like alot of other people.

Good idea, and we have to investigate why the "Homo Sapiens" was so brutal with the "Neanderthal" and put some in jail....
