Bloomberg: Trump Says Only ‘Fools’ See Good Ties With Russia as Bad
* Says Russia will respect U.S. more under a Trump presidency
* Comments day after intel briefing on Russia election meddling
Facing calls to strike back at Russia for what U.S. intelligence agencies have termed Moscow’s interference with the 2016 U.S. presidential election campaign, Donald Trump instead suggested warmer relations between the two countries.
The president-elect took to Twitter on Saturday to discuss the potential U.S.-Russia relationship under his administration, a day after U.S. spy chiefs briefed him on the Russian measures they said were directed by President Vladimir Putin.
“Having a good relationship with Russia is a good thing, not a bad thing,” Trump said in a series of three tweets. “Only ‘stupid’ people, or fools, would think it is bad! We have enough problems around the world without yet another one.”
“When I am President, Russia will respect us far more than they do now,” Trump assured his 19 million Twitter followers.

WNU Editor: How times have changed .... I am old enough to remember when it was only un-electable liberal Democrats who talked liked this. What do I expect next .... a few weeks after the inauguration both sides will start to lay the groundwork for a Trump-Putin summit, and the focus will be on issues that both sides agree with .... the war against the Islamic State, and the need to de-escalate tensions in Europe.

And The US will recognize that Russia get's to keep Crimea, the Lugansk Peoples Republic, the Donetsk People Republic, South Ossetia and Abkhazia,
Georgia and the Ukriane will be cut off,
Sanctions will be lifted.
My prediction is slightly different than yours Jay. The Lugansk Peoples Republic and the Donetsk People Republic will get special status in Ukraine .... a form of sovereignty with association (sheessh Jay ... I am now thinking like a French Quebec sovereigntist). U.S. will not recognise Crimea as a part of Russia .... but will treat it as if it was. No one wants to touch the South Ossetia and Abkhazia headache .... they will be treated like Transnistria. Sanctions will definitely be lifted by the end of the year and a few months before the Russian Presidential election.
Don't discount Trump,
He's gonna push for handing over the Baltic's as well for a buffer zone between NATO and Russia,
Another Sudentland Agreement and Peace in our Time.
Jay. I will not deny that some in the Kremlin are wishing for such a day .... but I think they are squirrelled away in some closet office in the basement of the Kremlin beside the boiler room (think of Mulder's office in the X-Files).
Avoiding or stepping back from Cold War II and a solution to the crisis in the Ukraine is what they are hoping for. I give stepping back from another Cold War a distinct possibility within a year .... Ukraine will only be solved when Ukrainian President Poroshenko is gone in the next election .... which is unfortunately 2 years from now.
Sadly, Porshenko is what passes for a "moderate" in the Ukraine.
Their next leader will be Paruby, or Timoshenko, not Savchenko, who the Nazi's hold was actually replaced by Russia and infiltrated back into the Ukraine.
The return of Yulia Tymoshenko is still a long-shot possibility. Andriy Parubiy and people like him .... if they attain real power .... will only result in the conflict in eastern Ukraine spreading to other regions. His support in Western Ukraine is real, but fortunately .... not enough to get the top job (for now).
Parubiy and his ilk will have more than enough pull to get the top jobs, when Trump hands the Ukraine back over to the Russian sphere of influence.
I guess this and I think that and perhaps or maybe the other or it could be more of this, etc etc...I will wait to see what happens
One has to be a special kind of stupid if one thinks that someone is going to "give" Baltics to the russians... Jeeez
Takes a special talent not to recognize snark on the web.
