Deputy foreign affairs minister says Beijing willing to arrange for meetings at World Economic Forum later this month
China and US president-elect Donald Trump’s team enjoy a “smooth” communication channel and Beijing is open to a meeting between the two sides at this month’s World Economic Forum, a senior Chinese official has said.
“China has good contact with the present US government, and also has a smooth communication channel with Trump’s team,” deputy foreign affairs Li Baodong said at a press conference on Wednesday.
Li was responding to a query by the South China Morning Post on the possibility of a bilateral meeting between President Xi Jinping and Trump’s team members when they attend the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, later this month.

WNU Editor: Too much is at stake for the Chinese to have a poisonous relationship with the U.S.. I will not be surprised if they are they are the ones who are laying the groundwork for a Trump-Xi meeting at the G20 summit in a few months.

NOP !!! First he will kiss Putin ... first and maybe he will brag about it to Xi Jinping later !
WNU Editor,
If we change your comment to read as follows it just as accurate and perhaps even more so. "To much is at stake for the US to have a poisonous relationship with China. I will not be surprised if they are the ones laying the groundwork for a Xi-Trump meeting at the G20 summit in a few months."
During the campaign the rhetoric got heated. Now it's time to cool it down and get down to serious negotiations. Clearly the current one-sided trade agreements with China, kind of like $100 for a barrel of oil, could not continue forever. The Chinese had to realize this.
This would eventually have to be renegotiated. Again, clearly the Chinese who are alleged to be careful rational thinkers not given to impulsive decision making had to understand that eventually this had to happen. Furthermore I've been told over and over again by people who supposedly have much experience dealing with the Chinese that there is very much a need to "save face" in their culture. Actually this is prevalent among all humans but I risk getting off topic. By making it appear that the Chinese are orchestrating this "meeting" as opposed to the Americans the Chinese can make it appear that they are the "adults" and, for it's part, America gets to renegotiate a trade deal that badly needs renegotiating. In this scenario, everyone wins.
There does seem to be precedent for this sort of thing. Prior to the negotiations that ended Cold War 1 the rhetoric got heated. When it came time to negotiate, the parties were respectful to one another. Hopefully something like that can happen here.
B. Poster. In a few weeks yes .... the Trump administration will be reaching out to China. But they are not right now .... it is China that is reaching out, and they are the ones who are publicising it. As I said more than once .... they enjoy a $300 - $400 billion trade surplus with the U.S. .... they do not want to jeopardise that.
HB: Very respectfully I'm not quite sure to what you are referring to. Furthermore at first glance your comment seems unserious. Against my better judgment here I am going to respond to this.
It would not make much sense for either Mr. Trump or Mr. Putin to "kiss" one another much less tell someone else about it. Both of these men appear to be very concerned with their image. As such a kiss between the two men would seem unhelpful for either of them. Furthermore America does not seem to be very popular in Russia right now. For a Russian leader to kiss an American leader would not be helpful here. Additionally such a move would likely undermine the serious negotiations that need to take place to try and resolve our differences in a way that respects the interests of both nations.
Hello China please open your fortune cookies Mr Trump is not even close or like Obama u will have to bow to him on your knees
