U.S. Navy Expect Its Newest And Most Expensive Aircraft Carrier, USS Gerald Ford, To Be Ready In April

Virginia Pilot: Navy's most expensive aircraft carrier, USS Ford, now expected to be ready in April

The Navy’s most expensive and complex aircraft carrier to date could be delivered by April.

Construction of the USS Gerald R. Ford is 99 percent complete with sea trials projected to begin in March, said Capt. Thurraya Kent, a spokeswoman for the assistant secretary of the Navy for research, development and acquisition.

Kent said “significant progress resolving first-of-class issues” with the $12.9 billion Ford – which is being built at Huntington Ingalls Industries in Newport News – has been made in recent months. If all goes well during the builder’s sea trials, the Ford will move to acceptance trials and then delivery to the Navy in April, Kent said in an email.
