Robert Beckhusen, War Is Boring: The Explosive Rise in A-10 Warthog Strikes, Visualized
U.S. troops in Afghanistan came to depend heavily on Hogs.
The A-10 Warthog, a muscular and armored ground attack plane, is an odd vehicle because it was originally designed to attack Soviet tanks in Europe in the event of a third world war.
Thankfully, that conflict never occurred. Instead, the Warthog flew in the Persian Gulf War, the Balkans and has spent years taking on lightly-armed insurgents in Afghanistan and Iraq — where it performs excellently at the job.
Particularly in Afghanistan, given the length of the war and the A-10’s predominant role, it might not be a stretch to say the Warthog is bound to it in the way the Il-2 Sturmovik and Ju-87 Stuka were to World War II.

WNU Editor: The F-35 cannot do what this plane will do. When the A-10 is finally retired .... the Pentagon will need to find an equivalent if it wants to continue conducting CAS military operations like the ones in Afghanistan and elsewhere.

The obvious solution is don't retire the A-10 or at the very least don't retire it until the replacement is online, has been tested, and proven to be every bit as effective as the A-10. The F-35 can never do this.
The problem with the F-35 is it is a jack of all trades while being a master of none. A war plane simply cannot be a fighter, a bomber, and provide vlose air support. For this three separate planes would be needed. In the business world, jacks of all trades who are masters of none cost money and jeopardize the survival of the business. In the military, such people and equipment cost people their lives.
What is needed is to take aim at the F-35 program, kill it, and allow those working on the program dignified retirements never to be heard from again. Tnen three planes can be developed for these needs. It'd be more effective and less costly.
As I've stated, when in a hole STOP DIGGING!! The F-35 is not effective and can never be. One of the main goals of the Tdump Administration should be killing this program once and for all.
Is he that smart? To date the answer would seem to be no,
The F-35 program will die simply because it is ineffective and can never be effectivw. The sooner the better. Business peoplw understand the need to "cut our losses." As such, one of the tpp priorities of American leaders should be eliminating tne F-35 sooner rather than later. As I've stated, allow the people working on this to retire with dignity.
