Washington Post: Al-Qaeda says Trump has ignited ‘the flame of jihad’ with Yemen raid

IRBIL, Iraq — President Trump is “foolish” and has ignited the “flame of jihad” with a raid in Yemen in which civilians were killed, al-Qaeda said Friday in its first official comments on the new U.S. administration.

That the raid came only days after Trump’s vow to eradicate Islamist terrorism in his inauguration speech makes it “clear for us that the threat was not directed to the Islamic militants only, but to all the Muslims, men, women and even children,” al-Qaeda’s al-Nafeer bulletin said, accusing the Trump administration of intentionally killing women and children.

U.S. Central Command, or Centcom, has not specified how many civilians were killed in the raid last Saturday, in which a Navy SEAL also died. Among those reported dead was the 8-year-old daughter of Anwar al-Awlaki, a U.S.-born cleric with al-Qaeda’s affiliate in Yemen who was killed in a 2011 U.S. drone strike.

WNU yep took the words out of my mouth. If they could have they would have, their response is confirmation that the raid hurt.

The "flame of Jihad" has been burning since the 7th century, Westerners who believe it is a reaction against US interventions are deluded.

The left is using Islam to push their agenda, the funny thing is: western liberal ideology is incompatible with fundamental Islamic ideology.

Where exactly in the article does the author put forward the proposition that Al Qaeda has a point? Oh wait, she doesn't. Slow clap for another piece... of... analysis... saturated... with... ellipses.

And where exacty did the reporter tell you al-qaeda has a point? Your comments are misleading for those who don't read the full report.

Anon. Washington Post reports what Al Qaeda says .... and then makes the case/excuse for them by asserting that new U.S. rules of engagement will "exceed requirements of international law" .... and to add to it .... listing the old line that controlling one's border (i.e. banning high risk countries) will fan "international extremism and stoke anti-American sentiment". Please .... you and this Washington Post reporter believe al Qaeda needs a reason to wage war .... sorry .... I have an entirely different point of view on who and what these people are.

Fazma,

We are in agreement here.:-) I think that raid hurt them and hurt them badly. I'm pretty sure BHO never would have ordered that raid knowing the casualties on our side would be high.

AQAP has for the past few years, been dominantly focused on leveraging their position in the Saudi War on Yemen as both a proxy, and given the Saudi weakness, exploiting power vacumes. While the UAE and their Mercenaries control the Port of Aden, AQAP controls the city of Aden and the villages controlling the roads in and out.

Having grown from 500-1500 to 15,000-25,000 members since the Saudi War, and being the key element in the Saudi backed Hadi Forces, should AQAP decide to refocus even a portion of their effort elsewhere, they are in a much stronger position than a few years ago.

With the rebranding of much of the "independent" so called FSA into the al Quida Hay'at Tahrir al Sham, in Syria, that ramps al Quida's numbers in Syria and Yemen alone, into the 50,000 member range.
