RFE: Separatist Commander 'Givi' Killed In Eastern Ukraine
KYIV -- A separatist commander in the eastern Ukrainian region of Donetsk has been assassinated, the Russia-backed separatists say.
Mikhail Tolstykh, better known by his nom de guerre Givi, died after a bomb exploded in his office in the separatist stronghold of Donetsk just after 6 a.m. local time on February 8, de facto separatist authorities and a source with ties to its military told RFE/RL by phone.
The separatists announced two days of mourning.
Donetsk separatist leaders called the killing a "terrorist" attack organized by the Ukrainian intelligence services.
"The Ukrainians...cannot defeat us on the battlefield, so they kill us in a malicious way," separatist leader Aleksandr Zakharchenko said.

Jay. Thank you for the video. His Russian-Ukrainian accent is very unique for the people who live there. Reminds me of my father's Russian-Ukrainian. That accent .... you can't miss it.
Sorry Stephen. If you had any knowledge of what is happening there, you would be speaking an entirely different tune.
Givi will be missed.

Again. Thankyou Jay.
It's a bit of an addiction of mine.
I watch when I need to be reminded that some people are honourable, stalwart, and brave,
You know, not like far to many in The West.
That is why Givi was admired by many in Russia and Ukraine. He was not political, and he had no problem being on the frontlines all the time. He was seriously wounded a few months ago and was recovering. As to who killed him .... everyone is telling me the same thing (even from my contacts within the Ukraine government) .... he was targeted for assassination by Ukraine special forces. The problem is that there is going to be blow-back.
Yeah, I know more than you think I do, Jay. Trust me I pay attention. As far as Givi goes, I kind of liked him up until his goofy berating of the captured cyborgs from the Donetsk Airport (Which the Ukainians still have half of, by the way). He was not as brutal as Motorola and he was tough but why would you discount the Russians doing this, is my problem with you and the WNU editor.
