Reuters: Canada should prepare for Russia destabilization efforts: minister
Canada's foreign affairs minister said on Monday that her country should be prepared for Russia to try to destabilize its political system, saying it would be similar to its efforts in the United States.
Chrystia Freeland, who is a critic of Russia and is barred from entering that country, was asked whether Russia had engaged in a smear campaign against her after negative articles appeared in pro-Russian media about her Ukrainian grandfather.
"It is public knowledge that there have been efforts, as U.S. intelligence forces have said, by Russia to destabilize the U.S. political system," Freeland told reporters in Parliament.
"I think that Canadians and, indeed, other Western countries should be prepared for similar efforts to be directed at us."

WNU Editor: Being one who lives in Canada .... the idea that Russia will destabilise the Canadian political system is .... to put it bluntly .... ridiculous. So why the reaction from her .... details from pro-Russian media on her grandfather's alleged Nazi past are surfacing.

Is this anything like Bush having his people help the Tories get elected or Obama having his people get Trudeau elected or the CIA interfering in the Quebec Referendum. Unbelievable Trudeau and his crowd are just a stupid as Harper and his bunch, I hated Trudeau's old man but at least he knew how to pick a Cabinet, people with brains. I certainly hope Canadians don't fall for this BS, but looking how many Americans have fallen for this garbage I have my doubts.
If we are to condemn someone for having a grandfather involved in anti semitism during the nazi period, ought we not check out all German's in govt and all Japanese in their govt?
Agreed .... children are not responsible for what their parents and grandparents did. What makes this case glaring is that the Canadian minister for foreign affairs is uncomfortable that many are now questioning the narrative that she put forward on her family's history. At the moment the Canadian media has avoided this story .... but I have been reading what they are saying and documenting in Poland and Russia on her grandfather Nazi past .... and it is not a pretty sight. The proper way to handle such situations is to come forward and discuss it publicly and without reservation. But Minister Freeland has decided not to do it, and there is no push-back in Canada on her to do so. My only disappointment has been the reaction from the Canadian Jewish Congress. They usually want better answers and explanations on cases like this.
