The Australiant: China’s new missiles targeting Taiwan, defence head warns
Taiwan is being targeted by China’s new medium-range ballistic missiles, Taiwan’s Defence Minister Feng Shih-kuan announced yesterday.
In a report to Taiwan’s parliament, the Legislative Yuan, he said China was stepping up its military intimidation of Taiwan.
The move involved upgrading its equipment, including such missiles, co-ordinating naval and air forces, and holding naval patrols — led by the aircraft carrier Liaoning — and air combat drills, Mr Feng said.
Retired People’s Liberation Army generals in China had spoken publicly against Taiwan more frequently and intensely, he added. Former Lieutenant-General Wang Hongguang said a fortnight ago: “If the US deploys its Terminal High Altitude Area Defence system in Taiwan, that will be the day that we liberate Taiwan.”
