WASHINGTON -- The top U.S. military commander in Europe again backed sending more advanced weaponry to Ukraine to help it in its fight against Russia-backed separatists.
U.S. Army General Curtis Scaparrotti's comments on March 28 reflected on the continuing debate that erupted following Russia's annexation of Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula in 2014, and the separatist insurgency that later broke out.
"I personally believe we need to consider lethal defensive weapons for Ukraine," Scaparrotti told a hearing of the House Armed Services Committee.
The administration of then-President Barack Obama sent Ukraine flak jackets, night-vision goggles, and other equipment. But officials resisted calls, in Congress and elsewhere, to send "lethal defensive weaponry" such as Javelin antitank missiles, fearing that would invite escalation from Russia.

Its a shame that military commanders can't be diplomats as well.
Enough anti tank missiles to negate the Russian military solution would go along way to getting a peaceful resolution. Peace is not made through weakness it is made through strength. A military solution to the Eastern region would need allot of stuff some HARMS with the training to secure the airspace, anti tank missiles etc..... but even a open book of weapons will not guarantee Ukrainian military victory vs Russia proper. Any imminent defeat of the eastern zone would/could result in direct overt russian intervention, as proven after the Ukrainian mil was looking at an imminent rebel defeat mid-late2014 until Russia intervened directly with forces "not russian" operating from Russian territory.
Personally I think Ukraine should consider trading off Crimea in return for solidification of its borders. Without the high Russian percentages in Crimea the Russian leaning gov will never get majority in Ukrainian gov again.
Tell that to Russia son, they are not supposed to be there. You are saying to the Ukraine, give up and be Russia's little bitch forever.
The General can want for what ever he wants.
Hair Furour's delegates stripped that provision from the Republican Party platform, and as a result, it will require all House and Senate Republican's to agree to change the Republican Platform and US Policy.
