These displays are 100% for internal consumption. As I believe are all the bluster, fire drills and missile launches. As dysfunctional as Kim Jong-un is, he has to realize that any attack on the US or RoK will result at minimum in a drastic change of lifestyle for him. And we all know that he does enjoy his amenities.
He also realizes that if he doesn't appear to his population and his generals to be the fearless Deity - capable of bathing the West in Fire - he may well be removed from his perch. With despots like Kim Jong-un, you're either at the top of the fear hierarchy... or your dead.
Gosh I miss parading in uniform...so much fun!
