AFP: US declining role the biggest threat to global security, says ex-spy chief
Jerusalem (AFP) - A former head of Britain's foreign intelligence agency told an Israeli security conference Wednesday that the United States' declining world role under President Donald Trump is today's greatest menace.
"The biggest threat the world faces is how we all adjust to the progressive withdrawal of responsible American leadership and the network of alliances that America maintained with Europe, with Asian countries and the pattern of alliances and partnerships they had across this region," John Sawers said.
"It's going to have a major disruptive effect and no one is yet adjusting to it," he added.
"It is now having a major impact in the security world, and I think it's how we adjust to that -- the behaviours of other countries trying to take advantage of it -- which poses the biggest threat in the world."

WNU Editor: There is a lot of blame to go around on why the network of alliances that America maintained with Europe and Asia are in decline .... to begin .... this trend has been ongoing for a very long time. But blaming President Trump for this decline and calling it "the biggest threat to security" .... especially in view of the enormous defence commitments that the White House has dedicated itself to while calling for allies to keep their own promises on their own defense commitments and support .... now that is a stretch.

Debt is the Greatest Threat to the worlds security, because of it, the US and its NATO Allies can't afford anymore what it's been doing. Debt took down the British Empire and Rome. Commitments to the Military and Social Programs are bankrupting the west, trillions of dollars in debt and end nowhere in sight, with the people taxed and priced out. It appears Mr Sawers been sucking on the Govt tit for so long he has no concept where the money that payed his salary and gold plated pension comes from, neither do our Generals of Admirals and don't get me started on all those political arseholes that bribe the people with borrowed money to get elected. The Canadian Govt is going to spend 4.3 Billion per Frigate, 4.3 billion, morons.
But blaming President Trump for this decline ...
He didn't say that
"But I see him not as the cause of these problems, but as a consequence of the changes in American society and America's willingness to uphold the burdens of the world as it has for the past 70 years or so."
Sawers said contributing factors were lack of success in military "ventures" in Iraq and Afghanistan and the world financial crash.
I am not sure Jason. If Trump was not the President would Mr. Sawers be saying the same thing? Hmmm .... he only started talking like this in the past few months .... and I certainly did not hear him say anything of this sort in 2016.
