I have now instituted comment moderation.

Editor's Note On Comments
In the past few months the comments on this blog have degenerated to name calling, swearing, even calling me a Nazi. Calling me a Nazi was the final straw. I have no patience for people who are filled with hate, and I know that most people who read this blog do not have that type of patience either.

Yes!
it was alittle anticlimatic to find a widely discussed blog post with 20+ comments, where only the first comment refer to the actual content.
Sad times, I feel it will get worse before better. I had contacts on Facebook publicly saying a race war id coming...... Carzy
I was abit surprised, or maybe not, that Jay went so far to call you names and a nazi sympathizer..
Anon, come on, this is a sad thing.
It's SAD to have to have moderated comments.
That's sad as all get out. It's very sad.
And you cheer it on. Why...I would even go so far as to say that a similar authoritarian impulse ushers in such groups as the nsdap (you know, the Nazis!) all those years ago.
I think it's nicer when people just shun and or ridicule rude people, but whatever. Some are immune to such subtleties I suppose.
Funny--or telling--that open uncensored opinion has to be shut down cause of lefties calling an ex-commie a nazi. Real cute.
But maybe it was something else in reality.
Still, anon, "a little anticlimactic" is just so lame of a reason for you to cheer this decision. Maybe you don't get it.
So this morning, from this hill, dirt-topped, it's flanks covered with Christmas trees, I say to all my fellow men at arms and all our loyal followers: let freedom ring.
Thank you.
And yeah, I seem to remember that about Jay.
Intoxicated Llama-breeding is the nicest thing about him.
To Copely: I left the big city for that reason.
No desire to see urban mau may at this time.
To Hans: me too, but a Scotsman in drink is a truly open book.
There may have been some posts recently where I typed some things that had they been directed at me I may have found them offensive. If anyone has found anything I posted here offensive, I apologize, hope you will forgive me, and look forward to constructive dialogue on these issues in the future.
O... So it was Jay that called him a Nazi?
Somewhat surprised, but then ever since Trump became president, he transformed from a 'respectable commentator' to a full-blown liberal extremist hurling abuse at anyone who didn't see his way.
Most of the problem disappears if you ban Jay. He has been allowed to troll your blog for too long.
There people are seriously ungrateful and full of hate. Finding unbiased blogs are golden these days and it is sad to see people being brainwashed by who knows to have a lot of hate in their system. Karma comes back quicker these days and I just feel bad for them. Kudos to the admin for handling this page greatfully.

I have followed your blog since my son went to Afghanistan - always appreciate your editorial comments. Don't let a few discourage you. The only real news I get is on this site.
Dear WNU editor,
Bravo! It is unfortunate that some people resort to insults instead of making substantive points. Sorry you had to take this step.
Probably a good idea. The ad hominem attacks were moving focus away from the true discussion.
Indeed its a shame Mr WNU, however, I just might start posting again if there is some control of the trolls...
Been a long time between drinks...
Keep up the great work, much respect!

Bad mouth a post or article. It ref to a person commenting on that article
Thus
You do not agree with a comment I make so tell why but no reference to me but in hitting reply
Jay is anti trump so name him right?
What of the anti liberal who insults all who do agree with him? He puts jay to shame
Agree on the moderation move. There's only so much recycled, rabid anti-Trump snark you can learn from. As a Blog Owner, you're not obligated to let people insult you on your own site.
It used to be that to intimidate someone, you had to do it face to face. Now, in the internet age, people of low intelligence and high emotional instability can do it a thousand times a day anonymously. As one result, the word "Nazi" has become a pejorative that has lost its historical meaning which provides cover for the real Nazis out to destroy the world.
I read this blog daily. And appreciate the news and views. I have thanked WNU several times for his work and reporting. I have also thanked Jay as well.
In my opinion, one grounded in decades of study in international relations, I have found Jay F. To be the greatest and most consistent truth teller, as a commenter, on this blog. Those who despise Jay, despise the truth and the facts, and are in it for the anti west put down.
Truth is truth, no matter what.
Thanks Jay and thanks WNU. You are both honorable men!

What is so great with insulting everyone and call everyone who does not agree with him nazis or fascists?
Odd the worst offender is silent on this topic
@Anonymous
Regardless of intelligent opinion and comment; Jay often inserted insults (he wasn't the only one either) in his comments, all the while making them seem less intelligent and more the mad-ramblings of a very bitter man.
There is nothing honorable calling the WNU Editor a Nazi, especially considering his background. He also called him a shit head.
I've agreed - and disagreed - with Jay and WNU Editor on many occasions, I've not resorted to name calling. The odd snide remark perhaps :P...
Snide remarks targeting the Editor are always appreciated. But it has to be good.
"Snide remarks targeting the Editor are always appreciated. But it has to be good." Considering the target, it's really quite easy.

That's your take on it
A commenter, When faced with obvious inaccuracy, wanton anti democratic, facist and old communist dialectic tactics as sometimes experienced on sites, a person can do one of two things; throw their hands up and not engage or speak to the inaccuracy and brush off the possibly sinister/disrespectful/ or known misinformation with a 'meh' and go on to establish the truth of the issue to your best ability.
In my estimation, Jay F. Was fed up with many of the inaccurate or knowingly false comments made by people at times. His 'meh' response was, LMAO. This was the best attempt to give a hint of respect to comments so far off the mark by others, they truly deserved a disrespectful response.
He should not have said to WNU Editor what he did. But he is a good person and a truthteller in the main. And I hope he is still welcome to contribute his thoughtful comments.
Fusion,
Yes. 5 or 6 years ago. It lasted for about a week or two.
I have also only deleted maybe 4 or 5 comments during the lifetime of this blog. Those comments were vile and hateful rants against Muslims and Jews. In other words .... I have runned a loose ship.
But it is different today .... the big reason being that the laws have changed. Web site owners are responsible for the comments that readers make .... even though the website owner may have a completely different point of view or may have missed a comment that someone may have made thereby putting him in legal jeopardy. And while I check every comment made .... the language has recently become unacceptable. And while I have never banned anyone from this blog .... nor do I have any desire to .... commentators have to be respectful.
At the very least Jay was lowering the level of intelligent discourse with his 4chan style of troll-posting.
"LMFAO!!"
It was disappointing as an actual non-extremist liberal to see him make such a huge character turn after the election. I felt like he made the rest of us liberals all look like a bunch of panicky fifth columnists without much to share besides the latest trump conspiracies which get debunked a week later.
I just wish he would chill out because there aren't any nazis here, and his viewpoints (minus the over-the-top rhetoric) are probably par for the course with a lot of folks on this blog.
Is it you Jay?
