It’s getting harder for Chinese President Xi Jinping to maintain support for wayward ally North Korea.
For weeks, Xi has been caught in the middle as leader Kim Jong Un lobbed intercontinental ballistic missiles into the Sea of Japan and U.S. President Donald Trump vented his frustration with warnings of “fire and fury.” China has urged calm while backing tighter sanctions against North Korea to ward off U.S. threats of punitive tariffs and military strikes.
The prospect of nuclear war has sparked a debate in Beijing about maintaining support for the Kim dynasty, which dates back to the Korean War in the 1950s. The two countries have grown apart over the decades, with China opening up to become the world’s second-biggest economy while North Korea has become more isolated and impoverished.

WNU Editor: Current U.S. - China trade is about $575 billion, with a balance of about $300 billion in favour of China. Current Chinese - North Korean trade is about $3 billion. To me .... there is no value for China to continue supporting North Korea .... even acting as a buffer between China and South Korea. My prediction .... China has evolved tremendously in its relationship with North Korea .... and eventually it will discard North Korea. But I give it another decade or two before that happens.

The US won't tolerate the continued threats from NK for much longer. There will be a new Korean war in the next decade or two. For the worlds sake, I hope China severs its ties with NK before then.
When India starts to rumble a bit more then it's time for China to abandon N Korea. China can't have it both ways!!!
NK is a buffer for China, China won't and from a strategic POV will not / can not throw NK under the bus, the very thought of a united Korea with close western ties on that part of the border is what keeps the Chinese generals up at night. As it stands now NK is a 9 million armed force and lots of rough terrain between China and SK/US, I suspect they will keep supporting NK.
China could throw NK under the bus, if they got SK Korea to disinvite the Americans.
The U.S. could still be an ally to SK, but not have any permanent presence
Still China will not do this, so I hope they get burned.
Vietnam was a buffer for China.

So why hasn't Kim Jong Un been given the Gaddaffi treatment?
I think it maybe Nuclear weapons. Gaddaffi closed up his chemical and bio weapons facility in the 90's, I don't think he would have been attacked if he had kept those programs going, he hired a bunch of Russian Chemical and bio engineers after they were layed off after the collapse of the USSR, I think he made a mistake in retrospect in stopping those programs. Iran and NK saw what happened to Gaddaffi and they have no intention in shutting down their WMD programs, it's the only thing I think keeping them from being attacked.

The O'bungler came along said "R2P" and broke the U.S. law, international law and good sense. But good liberals everywhere give O'bungles a pass, because to criticize O'bungler would be racist.
O'bungler love it, and your right on the criticism, it's getting worse have a contrary opinion on anything these days and they try and shut you down, freedom of speech is not allowed anymore if you don't tow the PC line.
