North Korea Is Driving American Foreign Policy In Directions Not Seen Before

Gordon G. Chang, National Interest: Why China Should Fear Donald Trump's Tweets

North Korea is driving American foreign policy in directions not seen before--and Beijing should be worried.

President Trump’s two-part tweet Saturday, coming after his June 20 tweet, signals nothing no less than a reversal of four decades of U.S. China policy.

At about the same time, America’s ambassador to the U.N., Nikki Haley, indicated the time for diplomacy with regard to North Korea is at an end. Moreover, with Senator Dianne Feinstein’s comments Sunday, the frustration with China is now evident across the U.S. political system.

And so it looks as if North Korea is driving American foreign policy in directions not seen before.

WNU Editor: I mentioned a day or two ago that China is having trouble understanding that President Trump is NOT Presidents Obama/Bush/Clinton/etc.. .... and that the consensus view in Washington right now is that North Korea is becoming a mortal threat to the U.S. and must be dealt with quickly and accordingly. This new U.S. approach has startled the Chinese .... and they are still unsure on how to respond. My prediction .... President Trump will be in China in November .... so nothing will happen on North Korea until then. But after Trump leaves China .... as I have said before .... anything will be possible. My advice to China .... formulate a policy and strategy that makes sense .... because after President Trump leaves .... China's options to influence events on the ground are going to become very limited.

WNU,
You are right and I have a hard time to understand what China didn't make a change in NK, even at the time of Kim sung Il. Now they are in a corner which looks like becoming their specialty.
Culturally Chinese have the eternity with them, but this time is over and the consequences could be very bad.
