Report: Ukraine Sold Rocket Engines For North Korea's Missiles

The Guardian: North Korean missiles 'probably had engines sourced from Russia or Ukraine'

Study claims engines on rockets launched in July resemble Soviet-era design and were probably acquired via illicit channels

North Korea probably acquired the rocket engines for the two intercontinental ballistic missiles it tested in July from Ukrainian or Russian sources within the past two years, a study has claimed.

A report published on Monday by the International Institute for Strategic Studies said that the ICBMs used a rocket engine of a type that marked a radical departure from those the North Koreans had been experimenting with before and which strongly resemble a Soviet-era design.

“An unknown number of these engines were probably acquired though illicit channels operating in Russia and/or Ukraine,” the IISS report said.

WNU Editor: The IISS report is here .... The secret to North Korea’s ICBM success (IISS). What's my take .... Russia does not sell rocket engines to anyone .... but if they did, it would have to be approved by the Kremlin. Ukraine .... that is another story. The country is in a mess, there are no controls, but they do have the know-how and technology .... and they do want to sell. But this report raises another concern .... if Ukraine sold the North Koreans rocket engines .... what else did they sell .... hmmmm ..... nuclear weapons tech?

Update:
It looks like I did not make myself clear. Russian weapon sales are tightly regulated, but they are surprisingly open in telling the world who they sell their sophisticated weapons to. If they did sell rocket engines to North Korea, it could have only been done with Putin's approval, and kept secret. Now Ukraine is a totally different story. Corruption and a lack of regulation makes the selling of this tech surprisingly easy. If this story is true, the Ukraine government is probably not even aware of what is happening.

US supports Ukraine. Ukraine sells rocket engines to North Korea. If North Korea is considered by the US to be an enemy. Does this satisfy the definition of Treason as defined in the Constitution especially if the rockets so propelled are used against American forces?

Well, black-market is not new at all. That's just business as usual. Sad, of course.

"North Korea probably acquired the rocket engines for the two intercontinental ballistic missiles it tested in July from Ukrainian or Russian sources within the past two years, a study has claimed."

Fred can you read at higher than the 6th grade level? Really, what is your lexile score? I'm betting it is pretty low.

Did you read this part? from Ukrainian or Russian sources

the past two years, a study has claimed." 15 months of that time is when O'bungler was president.

Freddy,

I did reply to James or otherwise converse about the North Korean missile launches. He wondered how many more missiles the North Koreans had.

He actually know better than I do.

I chimed in that if they got serial # off key components they could estimate the production of missiles perhaps fairly well.

Now I think you would not think of that, because I suspect you are innumerate in addition to having a low lexile score.

As I stated at the time, our support for the Ukrainian coup was the dumbest decision ever made by a major power. This appears to be even worse than I initially thought.

Who sold the missile rocket engines?

"from Ukrainian or Russian sources"

We do not know. I'd put it on a Ukrainian firm, but I really do not know. The rocket engines would 'tell' us.

Russian never interfered with Ukraine!

"The poisoning of Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko in 2004 has led to a breakthrough in the treatment of dioxin cases, a skin specialist said on Wednesday." - Al Reuters

Now to use a BP thinking pattern, I would not blame the Russians, but the U.S. or anyone but the Russians

"Now to use a BP thinking pattern, I would not blame the Russians, but the US or anyone but the Russians." The editor does a good job of explaining why it is probably not the Russians. There's very little I could add.

As for blaming the US, our "leaders" were/are to stupid to know who we are supporting. I could have very easily told them. Unfortunately they didn't ask me. I could add Russia wants to end Cold War 2. It's the idiots in the US government who seem he!l bent on fomenting it.

Unfortunately these Ukrainian chumps appear to be even worse than I thought and I knew they were evil. These people actively worked to try and get Hillary elected. Now this. I shouldn't have been surprised.

How soon can we cut these people loose? Unfortunately the US government has a crush on these chumps somewhat like a schoolgirl experiencing her first crush. As such, no matter how many times they screw us over it's going to be difficult for our government to cut them loose once and for all forever.

You really are avoiding talking about Viktor Yushchenko. Cowardice is noted.

You also do not want to talk about statistics.

Maybe Russian would not sell rocket engines. Maybe like in Ukraine corporate entities do the selling and do not inform the government. I doubt the Russian or a Russian company sold the rocket engines.

But as been pointed the Ukrainian government may not have control.

Kind of hard to control things when Russia tears up your country. Russian is probably not just satisfied with military activities but is also conducting clandestine activities to screw Ukraine up.

You called me names! Does this mean we are over, through? And I had thought we had a nice thing going

"Viktor Yushchenco" I think I remeber him. I refuse to jump out of a plane without a parachute. Does this make me a coward? I would say no. It makes me prudent.

Mr. Yushcheko was a complete idiot. I'm pretty sure the idiots who make up tne US government Loved that idiot.

Let's see here whose torn up Ukraine? That'd be the Ukrainian government. They've lost Crimea and they've had "little Russia" declared in part of their former territory.

When in a hole, the best solution is STOP DIGGING!! Ukraine is in a deep hole. I don't think they are smart enough to stop digging. Is the US smart enough to CUT THEM LOOSE? I hope so.

During Soviet days Ukraine was referred to as "the Ukraine." Apparently this was done to undermine Ukrainian independence. Perhaps the Soviets had some wisdom we fail to grasp. Such wickedness as currently rules Ukraine should not be allowed sovereignty and self determination. The sooner tne US comes to its senses and abandons these thugs the better.

Fred,

I accept your defeat. You initial post was that Trump allowed this arms sale. You read into the news story that it had happened on his watch. I get it. Your lexile score is not that high. I don't blame you. You were mis-educated and led by the nose by other Leftists. In fact you call yourself an old Lefty.

Maybe in order to be better led by the nose by other Lefties, you should have a cow ring attached to your nose.

I'll repeat it on this post in case you missed it on the 1st post. If there was an equal chance on any given day that the rocket engine shipped from Ukraine to North Korea, then it is much more likely that it happened under Obozo's watch. That would be assuming a uniform distribution.

Like I said before, if we picked up the rocket engine from the sea floor, we will most likely have out answer. Quality control and serial #s will probably tell all. If too much time does not go buy, we might be able to see tooling marks and gather even more information.

Mr. Yushcheko

I did not characterize his governance. That would take a while in research and back & forth with a known troll.

The point is that the Russian government poisoned him and this shows what sterling world actors they are.

the implicit message of you post is that if you do not like him, then it is okay for a foreign government to poison him.

Dear Heart AS
as you note, i am terrible with numbers and of course an old lefty. Ok. so under Obama, Ukraine got missle stuff. And then, after some time, sold or gave to North Korea. That was then. Now we know! And Trump has come out and denounced Ukraine and said we will not support them...you were right! I hear Trump just this morning, after he did his hair.

AS,

Not sure what you meant by "known troll." As far as I know, trolls are supposed to be bad. I am not the only person who posts here who has questioned the wisdom of some US foreign policy decisions. As stated, supporting the Ukrainian coup was/is the dumbest decision ever made by a major power and it gets worse each and every day.

Who, if anyone, poisoned Mr. Yuschenko? As I recall, it only affected his appearance. Perhaps he arranged it himself to manipulate gullible Americans. Perhaps American or "western" operatives who seem h!ll bent on fomenting a new Cold War did it and framed the Russians. Another possibility is the Russians did it. While I do not condone the action, after endless color revolutions in the nations bordering Russia in support of government hostile to them and funding of NGOs whose goal seems to be to undermine the Russian government when Mr. Yuschenko climbed into bed with this stuff a certain amount of blowback should/could be expected.

As George Washington pointed out "why quit our own to stand on foreign lands?" The full quote is available online. While he was referring to Europe, this can be applied to most US foreign interventions including WW1 forward. Furthermore as John Adams pointed out America cannot go through the world looking for monsters to slay. The full speech is available online. While there is a time and place where war will be necessary, there is nothing in Ukraine that is worth this. Given the high cost that is getting higher coupled with little to no possibility of any kind of return on this and the risks to Americans associated with it, it's long past time to cut Ukraine loose.

These rockets had no payload so I suspect their range with payload is not what the say it is now, if shot carrying a payload they would not have the distance , unless of course they put equal weight in the test rockets. But I don't think they would get the reaction they wanted, so I'm betting on an empty rocket, more distance, more panic.

"why quit our own to stand on foreign lands?"

An example which will not penetrate the grey matter of a troll.

U.S. does not side with Britain. Germany conquers Britian. A few years later, an Amerika bomber or V3 appears over NYC. NYC goes poof.
