New York Times: Republican Shadow Campaign for 2020 Takes Shape as Trump Doubts Grow
WASHINGTON — Senators Tom Cotton and Ben Sasse have already been to Iowa this year, Gov. John Kasich is eyeing a return visit to New Hampshire, and Mike Pence’s schedule is so full of political events that Republicans joke that he is acting more like a second-term vice president hoping to clear the field than a No. 2 sworn in a little over six months ago.
President Trump’s first term is ostensibly just warming up, but luminaries in his own party have begun what amounts to a shadow campaign for 2020 — as if the current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue weren’t involved.
The would-be candidates are cultivating some of the party’s most prominent donors, courting conservative interest groups and carefully enhancing their profiles. Mr. Trump has given no indication that he will decline to seek a second term.
But the sheer disarray surrounding this presidency, the intensifying investigation by the special counsel Robert S. Mueller III and the plain uncertainty about what Mr. Trump will do in the next week, let alone in the next election, have prompted Republican officeholders to take political steps that are unheard-of so soon into a new administration.

WNU Editor: Many in the Republican Party have made no secret that they do not support President Trump .... so it is natural they are looking (and hoping for) someone to replace him. I also think that many in Washington .... and that includes both political parties, pundits and consultants, and the media were disturbed by the turnout for President Trump's Huntington speech in West Virginia on Thursday. After all the non-stop negative publicity that has gone on forever concerning President Trump .... he was able to fill .... with little if any publicity .... a 9,000 seat auditorium to the rafters with thousands waiting outside in a sleepy town on a weekday .... Trump energizes WV supporters with Huntington speech (Herald-Dispatch). No politician who is in office today can come even remotely close to drawing in those type of spontaneous crowds .... no one. For those who run Washington .... that must send a chill up there spines.

Trump is winning because he is talking and taking his message to the middle and working classes, and we notice. The talking mouths in the government and the corporate media are talking to themselves, not the voters. we are smarter than they think we are, we know they are posturing, virtual signaling to each other and to the other elitists. We know they are bullshitters and lie to our faces but they seem to not understand that we know what they are doing. In short they do not care what we think and if they are successful in removing Trump there will be a civil war almost immediately, IMO.
I agree with your comment, and yes, there will be a civil war if he is removed. It seems like this is the first time in ages that a real candidate, for all his flaws, has been elected and he is one who is controlled by no one. And it seems like he really cares about the people and wants to get things done for them.
Remember, trump wasn't supposed to get the Republican nomination in the first place. Jeb Bush was the anointed one, anointed, that is, by the GOP establishment and the corporate news media. But as we know, the Republican Party rank and file ignored all that and went for the anti-establishment candidate and that carried him through the November election.
Trump will not serve two terms. No. There will not be a civil war. Seems? Hamlet: I know not Seems.
Crowds? of course: he went to the one place where he had huge support, and they continue to believe his promises. But if he and he alone can draw such crowds of admirers, then why does he go ONLY to slected tv station and selected spots where he had done well. Or, to put it simply: why does he have but 35% approval rating in ALL of America rather than in carefully selected areas.
Fred,
I do not know any active politician who can draw crowds like that. If you know anyone who can, please name him or her.
As for polls .... as a political junkie I do love to study them, the methodology they are using, trying to understand the agenda for why a poll was commissioned, etc.. .... and what I am seeing now is a repeat of what was being pushed before the 2016 election. But even if the polls are accurate, they show an across the board dissatisfaction of the entire political class .... and those numbers are even worse that President Trump's. I could be wrong, but I sense a shift in the country towards Washington .... a realisation that Washington is more concerned about their priorities .... priorities that have nothing to do what most Americans want today.
JFK in any city in America at any time...FDR...and yes, Obama
they do not and did not go to carefully selected places.
WNU: "fred, name an ACTIVE politician that can draw crowds the size of Trump's crowds"
fred: "dead people"
I am not talking about past politicians. I am talking about active politicians today.

"First in line, after showing up at 7 p.m. Wednesday – 21 hours before the arena doors opened – was Patricia Morgan, 70, of Brooklyn, New York. She said the bus ride from New York took 22 hours, including a three-hour detour when the bus broke down.
“I’ll do anything for Trump,” she said while sporting the iconic red “Make America Great Again” hat and a Trump shirt and button."
There's a big difference between drawing 9,000 locals to a jobs and economic's speech,
And having the same 9,000 people follow Hair Twitler around the country, because they love the "safe space" for their rage, racism and chants of "lock her up".
Back on the day, ( 1952) the Klan Grand Wizard got 12,000 to turn out from all across the South, for his Huntington rally.
It's also highly unusual for a sitting POTUS travel the country, still giving "election rallies", 6 months after the election, rather than actually working on policy.
BTW, Hamilton68 has launched a project, monitoring 600 of the most active Russian bot's on social media, tracking what memes and lines of argument they are actively promoting and spreading.

The beauty of it, is you can easily tell, based on the current top "pushes" by Russian Info operations, which Gullibillies, Deplorables. alt-Reich and Faux News Rage Uncles, by their talking points, are taking their "marching orders" from Moscow.

“There’s one other base here: the media. Let’s talk a little media bias here. The media, I think, wants Kerry to win. And I think they’re going to portray Kerry and Edwards — I’m talking about the establishment media, not Fox, but — they’re going to portray Kerry and Edwards as being young and dynamic and optimistic and all, there’s going to be this glow about them that some, is going to be worth, collectively, the two of them, that’s going to be worth maybe 15 points.”
— Newsweek’s Evan Thomas on Inside Washington, July 10, 2004.
Fred, why did you walk that ugly dog?
After the press, then there are the lying pollsters.
ABC-WSJ ‘bad’ Trump poll has +12 Democrat oversample
So between the press and the pollsters, they can drive down a person's rating by 15 to 25%.
Fred are you innumerate or something?

Better than bussing people form Illinois to Wisconsin to vote
Aw shucks!
Darn!
Holy cow!
Traditional Media's Approval Ratings Hit a Pathetic New Low
Trumps rating is almost twice that of TV news media.
Who would have 'thunk' it!

3 cults of personality.
Dear Leader #1 died of advance decrepitude that was hidden by the press until near the end.

LMFAO
1 There is usually a spread among polls.
2 There is a problem of polls polling working people especially in the age of do not call lists and cell phones.
3 You made no mention of press bias in your rebuttal.
