Russia Is Not Too Keen On Its Newest Jet Fighter

National Interest: Why Russia's New Su-57 Stealth Fighter Might Be a Giant Waste of Time

Russia’s Sukhoi T-50 PAK-FA fifth-generation stealth fighter has been given the designation Su-57 as it nears production.

@WNU... it's all relative. How much (in percent) of Russia's GDP or defense budget is tied up in this vs the same for the US's budget (again in %)?

Right. Russian defense budget does not have the fortitude for a F-35 rabbit hole.

No one has the fortitude for an F-35 rabbit hole. While the size of the "defense budget." is not unimportant, how much a country is actually spending on its military is the least important statistic. It's kind of like "time of possession" in football. While not unimportant, it gets little attention when analyzing the outcome of a game. Unfortunately the pundits spend WAY to much time on this statistic.

An irrelevant statistic that a number of pundits and leaders have opted to focus on of late is size of a nation's economy when comparing military strength or geo political strength among countries. This is not even worth comparing. As such, what passes for "analysis" today among the so called "experts" in the US and the "west" is generally deeply flawed and not even worth the bandwidth it take up or the paper it is printed on.
