* The statue, which is over 100 years old, sits atop is a traffic circle in Manhattan
* Friday morning a rally was held at City Hall to keep the statue of Columbus where it is
* Meanwhile references and a statue to Dutch Governor Peter Stuyvesant in New York are also under siege
* The growing debate on removing statues began after a Charlottesville, Va protest against removing a Confederate statue, turned deadly earlier this month
A rally was held in New York by those who wish to see the removal of a statue of Christopher Columbus from where it has stood since the 1800's.
The statue is currently under review by a special task force implemented by Mayor Bill de Blasio designed to remove 'symbols of hate' in New York City.
Friday night, demonstrators took to Columbus Circle where the statue is prominently displayed in a busy round-about at the base of Central Park, carrying signs that read: 'Columbus didn't discover America he invaded it.'

WNU Editor: As this blog predicted weeks ago .... the movement to destroy/abolish/remove American history has spread from those who wanted the removal of statues honouring Confederate leaders to the removal of statues and landmarks that any group may find grievance with .... starting with Christopher Columbus. Why stop at a Christopher Columbus statue in New York City. Might as well abolish the name Columbia University, Columbus Avenue, Columbus circle, the Columbus parade, etc... or for that matter .... every historical American leader who helped in the founding of the U.S.. This is going to continue until the public starts voting out those political leaders who promote this cause ..... and in the case of New York City that person is the mayor and many elements of the Democrat Party.
Update: The same thing is happening in Canada .... Should John A. Macdonald's name be removed from schools? It is at least a question worth asking (CBC).

I have a problem with the Left; they are snowflakes.

Which brings me to the main point is that the Left wants cultural purity and all antecedents have to be pure.
What gets me is that many people, who what purity among people of the past in the West, have no problem with Mao. They will wear Mao t-shirts and espouse Maoist communism as the variation that will work. It seems each new Leftist movement or revolution (Hugo Chavez or Shining Path) in Latin America harkens back to Maoist Communism as something pure and workable.
Per Wikipedia 16.2% of people in the U.S. use cannabis. I wonder how many of them, who vote Left of center and use cannabis, know that in Communist China drug addicts and distributors were summarily executed? They have videos of the execution. They make the drug user kneel, shoot them in the back of the head, grab their ankles and pull the ankles back flattening out the executed addict, and roll them onto a stretcher. Then it is onto the next addict's execution. These same Lefties many of the whom use drugs will wear Mao t-shirt, espouse Maoist communism and venerate Mao.
Does this make sense?

We are all under the same government that we voted for, wish distribute public money for public services... We just cannot complain up to the actual people (gov and mayor for example). Eric Cantor lost his re-election bid in 2014, because at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) retreat on Sea Island, Georgia in 2013, he said what he really thought and it was not conservative. He basically said conservatives were rubes. He was voted out.
Boehner left office about the same time. Paul Ryan became the Speaker of the House and conservatives were hopeful. Now, 3 years later they are not.
Around 2014, conservatives became aware that if we turnover only 10% or so of the congress, the newcomers are quickly suborned by the swamp.
So is it a GOP congress? It is not.
It is a GOP swamp. The problem (for the GOP) is that their voters are not happy with what they are doing. Unfortunately for GOP voters .... this ends at election time when the same voters who are not happy vote for those (again) who do not represent them. Hence .... continuing the cycle again. Primary them out .... or stay home so that they can lose .... that is the hope for a GOP voter.
